The ''Armidale Express'' is a newspaper published in Armidale, a city in the Northern Tablelands, New South Wales. Its frequency is tri-weekly. History It began publication as ''The Armidale Express and New England General Advertiser'' from 1856-1929 and its frequency at the time was bi-weekly. William Hipgrave and Walter Craigie established the newspaper and were the first editors, using the ''Express'' to promote their political views. They briefly sold the paper to Owen Gorman in 1858, but regained ownership in 1859. Editorials for the ''Express'' in the 1890s initially opposed moves towards Federation. In 1929, the title was changed to ''The Armidale Express'' in 1929 and it remains in publication under that masthead. Its circulation increased from 2,673 in 1950 to 4,394 in 1970. Armidale is a city in the Northern Tablelands, New South Wales, Australia. Armidale had a population of 24,504 as of June 2018. Estimated resident population, 30 June 2018. It is the administrative centre for the Northern Tablelands region. It is approximately halfway between Sydney and Brisbane at the junction of the New England Highway and Waterfall Way. Geography Armidale is on the banks of Dumaresq Creek, in the Northern Tablelands in the New England region about midway between Sydney and Brisbane at an altitude (980 m AHD) ranging from 970 metres at the valley's floor to 1,110 metres above sea level at the crests of the hills. A short distance to the east of Armidale are heavily forested steep gorges dropping down to the eastern coastal plain. Northern Tablelands
The Northern Tablelands, also known as the New England Tableland, is a plateau and a region of the Great Dividing Range in northern New South Wales, Australia. It includes the New England Range, the narrow highlands area of the New England region, stretching from the Moonbi Range in the south to the Queensland border in the north. The region corresponds generally to the Bureau of Meteorology forecast area for the Northern Tablelands which in this case includes Inverell although it is significantly lower in elevation. Uralla
Uralla is a town on the Northern Tablelands, New South Wales, Australia. The town is located at the intersection of the New England Highway and Thunderbolts Way, north of Sydney and about south west of the city of Armidale. At the , the township of Uralla had a population of 2,388 people,. At more than above sea level, Uralla's high altitude makes for cool to cold winters and mild summers. Walcha, New South Wales
Walcha () is a town at the south-eastern edge of the Northern Tablelands, New South Wales, Australia. The town serves as the seat of Walcha Shire. Walcha is located by road from Sydney at the intersection of the Oxley Highway and Thunderbolts Way. The Apsley River passes through the town to tumble over the Apsley Falls before joining the Macleay River further on. Originally the river caused flooding in the town prior to a levee bank being constructed and saving the town from more floods. At the , Walcha had a population of 1,451 people.
