Armando Vieira
Armando Vieira (born 11 April 1925) is a Brazilian retired tennis player. His best achievement was reaching quarterfinals of the 1951 Wimbledon Championships. In June 1951 he won the singles title at the Dutch International Championships after defeating Felicisimo Ampon in the final in three straight sets. He won the Dixie International Championships on clay in 1956. Vieira turned professional in 1958. 1951 Wimbledon Championships – Men's Singles
In the 1951 Wimbledon Championships – Gentlemen's Singles tennis competition, Dick Savitt defeated Ken McGregor in the final, 6–4, 6–4, 6–4 to win the title. He was the second ever American to win the Wimbledon and Australian tournaments in the same year. Number 4 seed Budge Patty was the defending champion, but lost in the second round to another American, the unseeded 17-year-old Ham Richardson. Progress of the competition After defeating Patty, Richardson went out in the fourth round, losing to another unseeded player, the Brazilian Armando Vieira; this was Vieira's most successful Wimbledon, but he lost in the quarterfinals to South Africa's Eric Sturgess, a former world number one, in straight sets. McGregor reached the final by defeating Sturgess in the semifinals. Felicisimo Ampon
Felicisimo Ampon (October 27, 1920 – October 7, 1997) was a tennis player from the Philippines. He is considered to be the greatest Filipino tennis player in history, and at only 5 foot 3 inches tall, though closer to 4 ft 11, was once considered the best tennis player in the world, pound for pound. He represented the country in several Davis Cup competitions for almost 30 years, and holds the Philippine all-time record for the most singles (34-26) and total wins (40-35) in Davis Cup history. He was known for winning the 1934 Far Eastern Games tennis gold medal, the 1950 Pan American Games tennis singles gold medal, the 1958 Asian Games tennis doubles gold medal, and 1968 Chinese Recreational Club Open Tennis doubles title. The ''Nieuwsblad van het Noorden'' (; "Newspaper of the North") is a former regional daily newspaper from the city of Groningen in the Netherlands. It was published from 1888 to 2002, when it was merged with the ''Groninger Dagblad'' and the ''Drentse Courant'' into the ''Dagblad van het Noorden'', which published its first edition on 2 April 2002.
