Arkansas Highway 362
Highway 362 (AR 362, Ark. 362, and Hwy. 362) is a state highway in Monroe County. The route of runs from US Highway 49 (US 49) east to Louisiana Purchase State Park. The route is maintained by the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD). Route description Highway 362 begins at Highway 49 in eastern Monroe County within the Arkansas Delta south of Blackton. The highway runs due east as a section line road toward Louisiana Purchase State Park. After the last driveway, a gate operated by the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism will close when the park is closed. The roadway enters a headwater swamp, with large water tupelo and bald cypress trees forming an allée before terminating at a small parking lot for the park. Park visitors continue on an elevated foot bridge over the swamp to the Louisiana Purchase monument. Blackton, Arkansas
Blackton is an unincorporated community in Monroe County, Arkansas, United States. According to The Encyclopedia of Arkansas History and Culture, "little remains of the town." Two nationally registered historic sites are located in or near Blackton. The Palmer House is a brick home built in 1873 located near Blackton that has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Louisiana Purchase State Park
The Louisiana Purchase Historic State Park, located in eastern Arkansas, commemorates the initial point from which the lands acquired through the Louisiana Purchase were subsequently surveyed. Arkansas Delta
The Arkansas Delta is one of the six natural regions of the state of Arkansas. Willard B. Gatewood Jr., author of ''The Arkansas Delta: Land of Paradox'', says that rich cotton lands of the Arkansas Delta make that area "The Deepest of the Deep South." The region runs along the Mississippi River from Eudora north to Blytheville and as far west as Little Rock. It is part of the Mississippi embayment, itself part of the Mississippi River Alluvial Plain. The flat plain is bisected by Crowley's Ridge, a narrow band of rolling hills rising above the flat delta plains.
