Arkansas Highway 297 is the name for two different state highways, both in Mississippi County. Northern section The northern section of Highway 297 begins in West Ridge at an intersection with Highway 140. It heads east for and ends at Highway 77. The eastern end is near a private airstrip. ;Major intersections Southern section The southern section of Highway 297 is a spur route which connects Dyess to the highway system. It begins at Highway 14 north of Dyess and heads south. Near its halfway point, the highway crosses the Tyronza River and then passes through the center of Dyess. One half-mile (0.8 km) south of the town center, the designation ends where the pavement ends. The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ArDOT), formerly the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department, is a government department in the U.S. state of Arkansas. Its mission is to provide a safe, efficient, aesthetically pleasing and environmentally sound intermodal transportation system for the user. Dyess, Arkansas
Dyess is a town in Mississippi County, Arkansas, United States. The town was founded as Dyess Colony in 1934 as part of the Roosevelt administration's agricultural relief and rehabilitation program and was the largest agrarian community established by the federal government during the Great Depression. It was the boyhood home of country singer Johnny Cash. As of the 2020 census, the population of Dyess was 339, down from 410 in 2010. Highway 77 (AR 77, Ark. 77, and Hwy. 77) is a north–south state highway in Northeast Arkansas. The route of runs from US Highway 70 (US 70) in West Memphis north through small towns and agricultural areas of the Arkansas Delta to the Missouri state line. It is generally a low-traffic road except in West Memphis. Created during the 1926 Arkansas state highway numbering, the route was extended in the 1950s and 1960s, including along a former alignment of US 61. AR 77 does not have any spur or business routes. Between West Memphis and Turrell, the highway is part of the Great River Road National Scenic Byway. The route is maintained by the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ArDOT). A spur route is a short road forming a branch from a longer, more important road such as a freeway, Interstate Highway, or motorway. A bypass or beltway should not be considered a true spur route as it typically reconnects with another or the same major road. Tyronza is a city in Poinsett County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 762 at the 2010 census. It is included in the Jonesboro, Arkansas Metropolitan Statistical Area and is in the Arkansas Delta. Geography Tyronza is located at (35.487, -90.357). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 4.1 km (1.6 mi2), all land. History Tyronza is one of the oldest cities within Poinsett County with its origins dating back to the late 19th century.
