Arkansas Highway 154 (also called AR 154 and Hwy. 154) is a east-west state highway in the western portion of the U.S. state of Arkansas. The highway begins at Arkansas Highway 27 in Yell County northeast of Danville and runs east to Arkansas Highway 113 in Conway County east of Oppelo. Highway 154 is maintained by the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department. Route description Highway 154 begins at a junction with Highway 27 in unincorporated Yell County northeast of Danville. From here, the route heads east through a rural area to Mount George, where it meets Highway 28. The highway continues east from Mount George to an intersection with Highway 7 in Centerville. Arkansas State Highway And Transportation Department
The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ArDOT), formerly the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department, is a government department in the U.S. state of Arkansas. Its mission is to provide a safe, efficient, aesthetically pleasing and environmentally sound intermodal transportation system for the user. The department is responsible for implementing policy made by the Arkansas State Highway Commission, a board of officials appointed by the Governor of Arkansas to direct transportation policy in the state. The department's director is appointed by the commission to hire staff and manage construction and maintenance on Arkansas's highways. Winthrop Rockefeller Lake
Winthrop Rockefeller Lake is an impounded section of the Arkansas River, named for Governor Winthrop A. Rockefeller (1912–1973). It extends almost along the river, from the Arthur V. Ormond Lock and Dam () below Mile 177 near Morrilton, to the Dardanelle Lock and Dam () above Mile 205 near Dardanelle. Lake Dardanelle (el. ) begins immediately above Rockefeller Lake. The Arkansas River lakes have been popular with fishermen because of their large supply of catfish, white bass, bream, crappie, and other species of bass. Fishing is not the only reason for visitors, however; Petit Jean Mountain is close to the area and provides scenic views for visitors along the lake. Holla Bend National Wildlife Refuge
Holla Bend National Wildlife Refuge is a 6,486 acre (26 km2) wildlife refuge located 5 miles south-east of Dardanelle, Arkansas. The Holla Bend National Wildlife Refuge is bounded on one side by the Arkansas River and on its other sides by an oxbow lake that was formerly the main channel of the Arkansas. The oxbow lake was formed in 1954 by the Army Corps of Engineers during their efforts to straighten the Arkansas River navigation channel. The island that was formed by this project between the old and new channels was transferred to the US Department of the Interior in 1957 for use as a wildlife refuge. The land was formerly agricultural land but was abandoned after the 1927 flood. Petit Jean Park Airport is a public use airport located eight nautical miles (9 mi, 15 km) west of the central business district of Morrilton, Arkansas, United States. Petit Jean State Park is a park in Conway County, Arkansas managed by the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism. It is located atop Petit Jean Mountain adjacent to the Arkansas River in the area between the Ouachita Mountains and Ozarks, Ozark Plateaus. Legend and naming According to legend Petit Jean was actually a young 18th century French woman. When she discovered that her fiancé planned to explore the Louisiana Territory, she cut her hair, disguised herself as a boy and managed to find a position as a cabin boy.
