State Route 264 (SR 264) is a state highway in northeastern Arizona, that runs from a junction with US 160 near Tuba City to the New Mexico state line at Window Rock, where the highway continues as New Mexico State Road 264 (NM 264). Route description The western terminus of State Route 264 is located at its junction with US 160 in Moenkopi, adjacent to Tuba City. The highway heads towards the southeast and then south from this junction until it reaches BIA Route 6710. At this junction, SR 264 begins to heads towards the southeast. It continues on this heading until it curves towards the south southeast of Coal Mine Mesa. The highway curves back towards the east and then north as it follows the terrain of the area. Moenkopi, Arizona
Moenkopi (, nv, ) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Coconino County, Arizona, United States, adjacent to the southeast side of Tuba City off U.S. Route 160. The population was 964 at the 2010 census. A Hopi community, it was founded in 1870 as a summer farming area by people from the Hopi Third Mesa village of Oraibi. It is west of Third Mesa and is divided into the villages of Upper Moenkopi and Lower Moenkopi. It lies in a exclave of the Hopi Reservation which is separated from the main part of the reservation which lies to the east. Both parts are surrounded by Navajo Nation territory. The smaller section comprises only 3.8 percent of the Hopi Reservation's land area and 13.2 percent (916 persons) of its population. Keams Canyon (Hopi: Pongsikya or Pongsikvi; nv, ) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Navajo County, Arizona, United States. The population was 304 at the 2010 census. Pongsikya is a narrow box canyon that is named after a plant of edible greens that survived along the seasonal stream that drains from Antelope Mesa and flows through the three mile long canyon. Here William Keam, and then his cousin Thomas Keam, operated a trading post during the last quarter of the nineteenth century. They served the Navajo Indians and opened the door to commercial trade for the Hopi Indians. The nearest trading post was some fifty miles away and Keam's trading post was 13 miles east of the Hopi Indian's settlements on First Mesa.
