''Aristocracy'' is a lost 1914 American drama silent film directed by Thomas N. Heffron and starring Tyrone Power, Sr., Marguerite Skirvin, Edna Mayo, Arthur Hoops, Ida Waterman and William Roselle. The film is based upon the play of the same name by Bronson Howard. It was released on November 26, 1914, by Paramount Pictures. Plot Jefferson Stockton is a railroad tycoon. His daughter Virginia falls in love, in return, with Stuyvesant Lawrence, a young man who belongs to a high-ranking New York family. A silent film is a film with no synchronized recorded sound (or more generally, no audible dialogue). Though silent films convey narrative and emotion visually, various plot elements (such as a setting or era) or key lines of dialogue may, when necessary, be conveyed by the use of title cards. The term "silent film" is something of a misnomer, as these films were almost always accompanied by live sounds. During the silent era that existed from the mid-1890s to the late 1920s, a pianist, theater organist—or even, in large cities, a small orchestra—would often play music to accompany the films.
