Arif ( ar, عارف also spelled Aref in Pashto, Persian & Urdu, or Arief in Indonesian and Malay) is an Arabic male given name that is common in Eritrea, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia and Yemen. It later spread to other Muslim countries, such as Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iran, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan and Turkey as well as among Muslims in India. South Semitic is a putative branch of the Semitic languages, which form a branch of the larger Afro-Asiatic language family, found in (North and East) Africa and Western Asia. Arif Sağ (born 1945) is a Turkish singer, bağlama virtuoso, and leading figure in modern Turkish folk music. A former academic, he was also a member of the Turkish parliament from 1987 to 1991. Early years Arif Sağ was born to a miller at Dallı village of Aşkale district in Erzurum Province, eastern Turkey. At the age of five, he learned to play the kaval, a simple traditional flute. Arif Pašalić (31 August 194322 October 199/ref> – 26 April 1998) was a Bosnian military officer who commanded the 4th Corps of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ARBIH) during the Bosnian War. Early life and education Pašalić was born in the hamlet of Janjići in the Zenica municipality. He enrolled in a secondary school for army officers in 1963. Arif Heralić (5 May 1922 – 17 June 1971) was a Bosnian Roma metal worker on a blast furnace in Zenica. He had 11 children and issues with alcoholism and mental illness. As a disabled worker, Heralić died in extreme poverty in 1971. Banknote and iconography His picture was taken by Nikola Bibić, a '' Borba'' news photographer, in 1954 and from the papers he came to feature on a 1,000 Yugoslav dinar banknote issued from 1955 to 1981, re-nominated to ten new dinars since 1965. Arif Erdem (born 2 January 1972) is a Turkish retired football manager and former professional player who played in the forward position. Starting out with local club Zeytinburnuspor in 1990, Erdem had a decorated 15-year professional career. He scored 106 goals in 341 league matches and finished joint top scorer (''Gol Kralı'') of the Süper Lig with İlhan Mansız at the conclusion of the 2001–02 season.
