"Arienne" is a song by British singer-songwriter Tasmin Archer, released in August 1993 as the fourth single from her debut album, ''Great Expectations'' (1992). It became Archer's fourth UK top-30 hit, peaking at 30. Five instruments were used in the recording of the track. John Hughes, Elliott Randall and Robbie McIntosh provided the guitars, whereas John Beck and Paul Wickens played keyboards. The drummer was Charlie Morgan whilst Peter Kaye played fairlight. Wickens also played accordion on the track. Critical reception Alan Jones from ''Music Week'' gave "Arienne" three out of five, writing, "Both the title and the way it is sung echo Dean Friedman's "Ariel". Attractive touches, including an a capella intro and the use of an accordion, plus Tasmin's appealing voice win the day. ''Great Expectations'' is the debut album by English singer-songwriter Tasmin Archer, released in late 1992 on EMI Records. The first single released from the album, "Sleeping Satellite", went to number one both in the UK and Ireland, while sitting just outside the top 10 in Germany (No. 12). Three more UK singles were released from the album in the wake of Archer's initial success: " In Your Care" (UK No. 16), " Lords of the New Church" (UK No. 26) and " Arienne" (UK No. 30). The album was later released in the United States on Capitol Records, and was mildly successful due to the single "Sleeping Satellite", which peaked at number 32 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Tasmin Archer
Tasmin Archer (born 3 August 1963) is a British pop singer from Bradford, England. Her first album, ''Great Expectations'', spawned the hit "Sleeping Satellite", which reached number one in the United Kingdom and Ireland. She won the Brit Award for British Breakthrough Act in 1993 and has since released three more studio albums. Early life Archer was born in Bradford, Yorkshire. She attended Grange Upper School and, after leaving, first worked as a sewing machine operator. She attended Bradford College in 1980 to study typing, and then became a clerk at Leeds Magistrates' Court. Archer joined a group called Dignity as a backing vocalist, and played with different bands around the Bradford area. She helped out at a recording studio in Bradford called Flexible Response Studios, and subsequently began working with musicians John Hughes and John Beck as "The Archers". In Your Care
"In Your Care" is the second single released from English singer-songwriter Tasmin Archer's debut album, ''Great Expectations'' (1992). It was released on 8 February 1993 but failed to pick up as much airplay and media support as "Sleeping Satellite", stalling at number 16 on the UK Singles Chart. The song also charted in New Zealand at number 36 but stayed in the top 50 for only one week. The money made from this release was donated to the charity Child Line. Song information The lyrics of "In Your Care" deal with the topic of child abuse. CD1 and CD2 of the song were released on two separate weeks. CD1 includes a remix of album track "Ripped Inside" while CD2 and the 7-inch vinyl release include a remix of "Sleeping Satellite".
