The Clientele
The Clientele is a London-based indie pop band, formed in 1991. The band is currently composed of lead singer/guitarist Alasdair MacLean, drummer Mark Keen and bassist James Hornsey. Since its inception, the Clientele has released eight full-length albums and five EPs. The band have toured extensively in the United States, where they have experienced more success than in their native Britain. They are currently signed to Merge Records, an independent record label based out of North Carolina. History MacLean and Hornsey both grew up in Hampshire, England, and began collaborating musically while still in school, after MacLean saw that Hornsey had written the name of the band Felt on his pencil case. The band formed in 1991, with Innes Phillips sharing singing and songwriting duties with MacLean; their original name was ''The Butterfly Collectors''. Indie Pop
Indie pop (also typeset as indie-pop or indiepop) is a music genre and subculture that combines guitar pop with DIY ethic in opposition to the style and tone of mainstream pop music. It originated from British post-punk in the late 1970s and subsequently generated a thriving fanzine, Independent record label, label, and club and gig circuit. Compared to its counterpart, indie rock, the genre is more melodic, less abrasive, and relatively angst-free. In later years, the definition of ''indie pop'' has bifurcated to also mean bands from unrelated DIY scenes/movements with pop leanings. Subgenres include chamber pop and twee pop. ''The Violet Hour'' is the second studio album by English indie pop band The Clientele. The album was released on 8 July 2003 by Merge Records and Pointy Records. It is the band's first proper full-length album composed primarily of new material. "Haunted Melody" was released as a single in October 2002, backed with "Fear of Falling". "House on Fire" was released as a single in June 2003, backed with "Jamaican Rum Rhumba" (Take Two) and "Breathing Soft and Low". Strange Geometry
''Strange Geometry'' is the third studio album by English indie pop band The Clientele. The album was released on 30 August 2005 by Merge Records and on 5 September 2005 by Pointy Records. It was recorded in Walthamstow, London, and received generally positive reviews upon release. The album's first single was "Since K Got Over Me", which was released on 22 August 2005 in limited quantities on 7" vinyl, backed with " Devil Got My Woman" and "I Believe It". The song "(I Can't Seem To) Make You Mine" originally appeared on a split single with The Relict in 2001, featuring additional vocals by Pam Berry. AllMusic (previously known as All Music Guide and AMG) is an American online music database. It catalogs more than three million album entries and 30 million tracks, as well as information on musicians and bands.
