Ari Rath
Ari Rath (; 6 January 1925 – 13 January 2017) was an Austrian-Israeli journalist and writer. Life Rath was born in Vienna and grew up there. After the ''Anschluss'' he came through a ''Kindertransport'' as a thirteen-year-old boy to Mandate Palestine. As one of the founders of Kibbutz Hamadia he lived there for 16 years and studied contemporary history and economics. Career After turning to journalism he became editor of ''The Jerusalem Post'' in 1975, and in 1979 was appointed its Editor-in-Chief. In this capacity he belonged, together with Shimon Peres, to the inner circle of friends of David Ben-Gurion. Leaving ''The Jerusalem Post'' in 1989, he was a freelance writer and taught at the University of Potsdam and was news editor of the on-line journal ''Partners for Peace''. David Ben-Gurion
David Ben-Gurion ( ; he, דָּוִד בֶּן-גּוּרִיּוֹן ; born David Grün; 16 October 1886 – 1 December 1973) was the primary national founder of the State of Israel and the first prime minister of Israel. Adopting the name of Ben-Gurion in 1909, he rose to become the preeminent leader of the Jewish community in British-ruled Mandatory Palestine from 1935 until the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, which he led until 1963 with a short break in 1954–55. The ''Kindertransport'' (German for "children's transport") was an organised rescue effort of children (but not their parents) from Nazi-controlled territory that took place during the nine months prior to the outbreak of the Second World War. The United Kingdom took in nearly 10,000 predominantly Jewish children from Nazi Germany, Germany, Austria under National Socialism, Austria, First Czechoslovak Republic, Czechoslovakia, Second Polish Republic, Poland, and the Free City of Danzig. The Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (german: Verdienstorden der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, or , BVO) is the only federal decoration of Germany. It is awarded for special achievements in political, economic, cultural, intellectual or honorary fields.
