Arfst F. Frudden
Arfst Frederich Frudden (1854-1931) was a German-American politician and businessman from Föhr. Emigrating to Iowa in the 1870s, he co-founded a lumber company in 1888. He advocated for lumbermen in several trade organizations, then was nominated by the Democrats to serve in the Iowa House of Representatives and later the Iowa Senate. Biography Arfst Frederich Frudden was born in Oldsum, Toftum, Föhr, Denmark (later Germany) to Cornelius F. and Elke (Namens) Frudden on September 10, 1854. In 1871, following the Franco-Prussian War, he emigrated to the United States, ending in Clinton, Iowa. He worked on his cousin's farm near Sabula, Iowa for a year and a half. Some acquaintances that Frudden met during his emigration offered to give him a warehousing job in Clinton with Curtis Brothers & Company. In 1880, Frudden joined W. W. Oldsum
Oldsum (Fering: ''Olersem'') is a municipality on the island of Föhr, in the district of Nordfriesland, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Geography The municipality of Oldsum consists of the three hamlets of Oldsum, Klintum (Fering: ''Klantem'') and Toftum (Fering: ''Taftem'') which are spread over some two kilometres along a main road. The population number about 600. The landscape is marked by well-preserved thatching, thatched farmhouses. Oldsum's landmark is an ancient thatched windmill whose antecessor presumably dates back to the year 1700. Though burned down 200 years later, it was rebuilt and subsequently was in use until 1954. Since 1972 the mill is exclusively used as a dwelling house. Oldsum is situated approximately two kilometres from the western shore of the island, the northern coastline is a little closer. Iowa Democratic Party
The Iowa Democratic Party (IDP) is the affiliate of the Democratic Party in the U.S. state of Iowa. While existing when Iowa was granted statehood in 1846, it did not gain broad electoral success until the mid-1950s, when demographic changes resulted in many new voters for the party from immigrants, union members, and industrial workers. Linwood Cemetery (Dubuque)
Linwood Cemetery is located in Dubuque, Iowa, United States. It is located on Windsor Avenue in the north end of Dubuque. History The cemetery is one of the main cemeteries in Dubuque. Originally established for the Protestants of the city, the cemetery now serves members of all faiths. If current burial procedures are followed in the future, the cemetery is estimated to have enough room for the next 1,200 years. The cemetery is noted for the large gates at the entrance to the cemetery. The gates were given in memory of a local businessman and banker.
