Area Codes 407 And 689
Area codes 407 and 689 are telephone area codes in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for the area of and around the city of Orlando in the U.S. state of Florida. The numbering plan area (NPA) includes the counties Orange, Osceola, and Seminole, as well as small portions of Volusia and Lake counties. Area code 407 was created in 1988 in a split of area code 305, Florida's original area code of 1947. When assigned, 407 included not only most of Central Florida, but also the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast. In 1996, Palm Beach, Martin, Indian River, and St. Lucie counties were split from the number plan area and received area code 561. The latter area code has since been split to form area code 772. In October 2000, Brevard County was split off with area code 321. At the same time, 321 was also overlaid on Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties. The small portion of Volusia County that was located in 407 (the Deltona area) continued to use only 407. In 2003, it was ann ...

The area of a plane region or ''plane area'' refers to the area of a shape or planar lamina, while ''surface area'' refers to the area of an open surface or the boundary (mathematics), boundary of a solid geometry, three-dimensional object. It is the two-dimensional analogue of the length of a plane curve, curve (a one-dimensional concept) or the volume of a solid (a three-dimensional concept). The area of a shape can be measured by comparing the shape to squares of a fixed size. In the International System of Units (SI), the standard unit of area is the square metre (written as m2), which is the area of a square whose side ...

Area Codes In The United States
The North American Numbering Plan (NANP) divides the territories of its members into geographic numbering plan areas (NPAs). Each NPA is identified by one or more numbering plan area codes (''NPA codes'', or '' area codes''), consisting of three digits that are prefixed to each local telephone number having seven digits. Numbering plan areas may be assigned multiple area codes to provide adequate numbering resources, in which case the local numbering plan is called an overlay. Area codes are also assigned for non-geographic purposes. The rules for numbering NPAs do not permit the digits ''0'' and ''1'' as the leading digit, which also applies for central office codes.AT&T (1955) ''Notes on Distance Dialing'' NPAs with ''9'' as the second digit are reserved for future format expansion. Area codes with two identical trailing digits are considered easily recognizable codes (ERC), which are reserved, or used for systemwide services. Area codes in numerical order 200–299 300–399 ...

In 2020, ''988'' was designated nationwide as a dialing code for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, which created a conflict for exchanges that permit seven-digit dialing. This area code was therefore scheduled to transition to ten-digit dialing by October 24, 2021. See also *List of Florida area code ...

Area Code 321
Area code 321 is the area code serving Brevard County, Florida, Space Coast Region and Seminole County, Florida. The area code has been in use since November 1, 1999; it was assigned to Florida (instead of suburban Chicago) after a successful petition led by local resident Robert Osband to commemorate the Space Coast's impact on Brevard County. The code refers to the countdown sequence which has launched many spacecraft from Cape Canaveral. When it was activated in 2000, area code 321 was used as an overlay for most of area code 407 in the Orlando area, except for the small portion of Volusia County that includes Deltona which was in 407 at the time (it is now in 386). However, no 321 numbers were issued in the 407 area from 2003 until 2015, when 321 numbers were issued for cell phones in Osceola, Orange, and Seminole counties due to high demand. With the 407/689 overlay, 321 remains frozen in the Orlando area with new 321 numbers again being assigned only in Brevard County. Area ...
