"Are You That Somebody?" is a song recorded by American singer Aaliyah for the Dr. Dolittle (soundtrack), ''Dr. Dolittle'' soundtrack (1998). It was co-written and composed by Static Major–who also sang backing vocals–and Timbaland, who, in addition to writing the song, produced it and performed a guest rap. The song was sent to urban contemporary radio stations in the United States on May 26, 1998. "Are You That Somebody?" was a commercial success, reaching number 21 on the US Billboard Hot 100, ''Billboard'' Hot 100, number 11 in the United Kingdom, number three in the Netherlands, and number one in New Zealand. Aaliyah Dana Haughton (; January 16, 1979 – August 25, 2001) was an American singer and actress. She has been credited for helping to redefine contemporary R&B, pop and hip hop, earning her the nicknames the "Princess of R&B" and "Queen of Urban Pop". Born in Brooklyn but raised in Detroit, she first gained recognition at the age of 10, when she appeared on the television show ''Star Search'' and performed in concert alongside Gladys Knight. Drum and bass (also written as drum & bass or drum'n'bass and commonly abbreviated as D&B, DnB, or D'n'B) is a genre of electronic dance music characterized by fast breakbeats (typically 165–185 beats per minute) with heavy bass and sub-bass lines, samples, and synthesizers. The genre grew out of the UK's rave scene in the 1990s. The popularity of drum and bass at its commercial peak ran parallel to several other UK dance styles.
