Ardy Kassakhian
Ardashes "Ardy" Kassakhian ( hy, Արտաշես Քասախյան) is an American-Armenian politician who has been the mayor of Glendale, California since April 2022. Biography Kassakhian was born in Boston, Massachusetts. He has been a resident of Glendale since 1986. He graduated from the University of California in Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Arts in History and received his Master of Arts in Public Policy and Administration from Northwestern University. On 5 April 2022, Kassakhian was selected as the Glendale City’s Mayor, one of the largest cities in Los Angeles County. This was Kassakhian’s first time serving in the role of Mayor. Section 907
Section 907 of the United States Freedom Support Act bans any kind of direct United States aid to the Azerbaijani government. This ban made Azerbaijan the only post-Soviet state not to receive direct aid from the United States government to facilitate economic and political stability. The Act was strongly lobbied for by the Armenian-American community in the US, and was passed in response to Azerbaijan's blockade of Armenia during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War between the two nations. On October 24, 2001, the Senate adopted an amendment to the Act that would provide the President with the ability to waiver Section 907. They have done so since then.
