Arda Turan
Arda Turan (born 30 January 1987) is a Turkish former professional footballer who played most notably as a winger. Turan is mostly known for his ball control, dribbling skills and vision. At age 21, prior to the 2009–10 season, he was named captain of Galatasaray. Following a successful UEFA Euro 2008 campaign, Turan was ranked eighth in a selection of the ''100 Best Young Football Players in the World'' piece published by Spanish magazine '' Don Balón'' in July 2008. Turan was ranked 38th in "The 100 Best Footballers in the World" by ''The Guardian'' in 2014, the only player on the list to be born in Turkey. On 25 November 2014, Turan was nominated for the UEFA Team of the Year for 2014, among 39 other players. The Turkey national football team ( tr, Türkiye Millî Futbol Takımı) represents Turkey in men's international Association football, football matches. 2009–10 Süper Lig
The 2009–10 Süper Lig (known as the ''Turkcell Süper Lig'' for sponsorship reasons) was the 52nd season since its establishment. The season commenced on 7 August 2009 with Istanbul B.B. hosting defending champions Beşiktaş at Atatürk Olympic Stadium. The last matches were played on 16 May 2010. Bursaspor won the league beating defending champions Beşiktaş 2–1 at home. They beat second placed Fenerbahçe by just one point after they could only manage a 1–1 home draw against Trabzonspor. It was only the seventh time a club outside the ''Istanbul Big Three'' have won the league, with Trabzonspor being the only other team with six championships, winning their last title in 1984. 2006–07 Süper Lig
The 2006–07 Süper Lig was the 49th edition of the top-flight professional football league in Turkey. The season began on 4 August 2006 with a match between Ankaraspor and Galatasaray, resulting in a 1–1 draw. Fenerbahçe became champions after drawing Trabzonspor 2–2, while Beşiktaş lost 3–0 to Bursaspor and Galatasaray drew 1–1 with Sivasspor. Kayseri Erciyesspor gained qualification to the UEFA Cup because of Beşiktaş' qualification to the UEFA Champions League Second Qualifying Round. 2005–06 Süper Lig
The 2005–06 Süper Lig season began with Turkcell signing a 5-year sponsorship deal with the Turkish Football Federation to name the league Turkcell Süper Lig. Since Turkey dropped from tenth to eleventh place in the UEFA association coefficient rankings at the end of the 2004–05 season, the champions will not directly be entered into the group stage of the UEFA Champions League any more, but rather have to begin in the third qualification round. The season also saw a first in Turkish football; for the first time in history the team that entered the last week first, Fenerbahçe, failed to win the title. Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray went into the last week deadlocked at 80 points and Fenerbahçe had a better head-to-head record. The Süper Lig (, ''Super League''), officially known as Spor Toto Süper Lig for sponsorship reasons, is a Turkish professional league for association football clubs. It is the top-flight of the Turkish football league system and is run by the Turkish Football Federation. In the 2022–23 season, nineteen clubs compete, where a champion is decided and three clubs are promoted from, and relegated to the 1. Lig. The UEFA Fan's Team of the Year is a football award given by UEFA through a poll on its official website. This award started in 2001 and allows users of the organization's website to choose their own eleven players and a coach based on their overall performances in European club football and international competitions. Selection process Until 2011, the writers at the website had constructed a short-list of sixty footballers and coaches who have performed well in European club competitions, domestic competitions and international tournaments for that particular year.
