''Archives'' is a compilation album by Darkest Hour, released on October 3, 2006 through A-F Records. The disc includes tracks from the band's first two independent EPs, 1996's '' The Misanthrope'' and 1999's '' The Prophecy Fulfilled''. The audio for this release was re-mastered from the original master tapes. Tracks 1 to 6 are from ''The Prophecy Fulfilled'', track 10 and is from a split EP with Groundzero, and tracks 11 to 16 are from ''The Misanthrope''. Tracks 7 to 9 are alternate versions of songs from ''The Prophecy Fullfilled''. Darkest Hour is an American heavy metal band from Washington, D.C., formed in 1995. Though failing to break through early in their tenure, the band has received acclaim for their albums ''Undoing Ruin'', '' Deliver Us'', and '' The Eternal Return''. ''Deliver Us'' debuted at number 110 on the ''Billboard'' album charts, with sales of 6,600, and their more recent effort ''The Eternal Return'' garnered them an even higher position in the ''Billboard'' album charts at number 104. Metalcore
Metalcore (also known as metallic hardcore) is a fusion music genre that combines elements of extreme metal and hardcore punk. As with other styles blending metal and hardcore, such as crust punk and grindcore, metalcore is noted for its use of breakdowns, slow, intense passages conducive to moshing. Other defining instrumental qualities include heavy riffs and stop-start rhythm guitar playing, occasional blast beats, and double bass drumming. Vocalists in the genre typically use thrash or scream vocals. Some later metalcore bands combine this with clean singing, often during the chorus. Melodic Death Metal
Melodic death metal (also referred to as melodeath) is a subgenre of death metal that employs highly melodic guitar riffs, often borrowing from traditional heavy metal (including New Wave of British Heavy Metal). The genre features the heaviness of death metal but with highly melodic or harmonized guitar riffs and solos, and often features high-pitched shrieked vocals (differing from traditional death metal) alongside the low-pitched growls commonly featured in traditional death metal. Pioneered by the English heavy metal band Carcass with their 1993 album ''Heartwork'', melodic death metal developed further in Sweden (developed by bands like At the Gates, Dark Tranquillity, and In Flames) in the mid-1990s. Sludge Metal
Sludge metal (also known as sludge or sludge doom) is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal music that originated through combining elements of doom metal and hardcore punk. It is typically harsh and abrasive, often featuring shouted vocals, heavily distorted instruments and sharply contrasting tempos. The Melvins from the US state of Washington produced the first sludge metal albums in the mid-late 1980s. Characteristics The key characteristics of both sludge and doom metal are a slow tempo combined with down-tuned, heavily- distorted guitars to deliver the heaviest feel that is possible. The drummer must be able to lead the band through the slow parts of a piece with an accurate time feel, which is much harder to achieve when compared with playing faster pieces. A-F Records is an American independent record label founded by punk rock band Anti-Flag and based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was created to help expose more political punk bands to a larger audience. The label's offices were damaged when a September 2004 flood hit Pittsburgh. ''Undoing Ruin'' is the fourth full-length studio album by melodic death metal/metalcore band Darkest Hour, released on June 28, 2005. It was the band's first album to enter the ''Billboard'' 200 albums chart, debuting at #138. "Convalescence" served as the album's single with a music video that was frequently shown on MTV2's ''Headbangers Ball''. Darkest Hour released an official DVD in 2017 titled 'Party Scars and Prison Bars Two and a Half: Live' as a bonus bundled with pre-orders of their ninth studio album ''Godless Prophets & the Migrant Flora'' of the band playing ''Undoing Ruin'' live in its entirety, which was filmed in 2015 to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the album's release.
