Archie Marries Betty
''Archie'' (also known as ''Archie Comics'') is an ongoing comic book series featuring the Archie Comics character Archie Andrews. The character first appeared in ''Pep Comics'' #22 (cover dated December 1941). Archie proved to be popular enough to warrant his own self-titled ongoing comic book series which began publication in the winter of 1942 and ran until June 2015. A second series began publication in July 2015, featuring a reboot of the ''Archie'' universe with a new character design aesthetic and a more mature story format and scripting, aimed for older, contemporary teenage and young adult readers. The printed comic book format is different from the previous publications. Samm Schwartz
Samm Schwartz (October 15, 1920 – November 13, 1997)Social Security Death Index, for SS# 073-14-0718. was an American comic artist best known for his work in MLJ and Archie Comics, specifically on the character Jughead Jones. Biography Schwartz was born in Brooklyn, where he took art instruction at the Pratt Institute. After working as an apprentice at a New York fashion studio and a part-time male model, he joined MLJ in 1942, shortly after the creation of Archie. Schwartz, who pencilled, inked, and lettered much of his own work, specialized in stories featuring Jughead, and was the lead artist on the '' Jughead'' solo title through much of the 1950s and early 1960s. His colleague and friend Joe Edwards recalled that it was Schwartz's work that turned the character from a second banana to a star: "He ''made'' Jughead! . . . Harry Lucey
Harry Lucey (November 13, 1913 – August 28, 1984) was an American comic artist best known for his work in MLJ and Archie Comics. He was the primary artist on ''Archie'', the company's flagship title, from the late 1950s through the mid-1970s. Lucey, who graduated from the Pratt Institute in 1935, worked on both adventure and humor titles for MLJ, including acting as the regular artist on '' The Hangman'', before being drafted into the United States Army. After being discharged, he spent several years working in advertising. In 1949, he rejoined MLJ, which by that time had changed its name to Archie Comics. Though he continued to draw action and romance comics for the company, including the hard-boiled mystery ''Sam Hill, Private Eye'', his primary work was on their popular teen humor titles. Daniel S. DeCarlo (December 12, 1919 – December 18, 2001) was an American cartoonist best known for having developed the look of Archie Comics in the late 1950s and early 1960s, modernizing the characters to their contemporary appearance and establishing the publisher's house style up until his death. As well, he is the generally recognized co-creator of the characters Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Josie and the Pussycats (the title character of which was named for his wife), and Cheryl Blossom. ''Jughead'' (also known as ''Archie's Pal Jughead'') is an ongoing comic book series featuring the Archie Comics character of the Jughead Jones, same name. The character first appeared in ''Pep Comics'' #22 (cover dated December 1941). Jughead proved to be popular enough to warrant his own self-titled ongoing comic book series which began publication in January 1949. Publication history Jughead first appeared in ''Pep Comics'' #22 in 1941 (also Archie's first appearance) and later grew into his own title ''Archie's Pal Jughead Comics'' in 1949, which also guest-starred Archie and his friends. Common story themes included Jughead's insatiable appetite for hamburgers, avoiding Ethel Muggs, Big Ethel who has a crush on him and outsmarting his nemesis Reggie Mantle.
