Archibald Lartey Djabatey
Archibald Lartey Djabatey was a Ghanaian lawyer and former Attorney General of Ghana. Djabatey hailed from Odumase Krobo in the Eastern Region of Ghana. He received his bachelor of laws degree from the University of London and was called to the Ghanaian Bar in 1964. Following his call to the bar, he subsequently became a State Attorney and later a Senior State Attorney. In 1979, during the third republic, he was appointed deputy Attorney General to the then Attorney General, Joe Reindorf. In 1980, when Joe Reindorf was moved to the Ministry of Local Government, Djabatey was elevated to the status of Attorney General and Minister of Justice. Following the overthrow of the Limann government on 31 December 1981, he was replaced by George Emmanuel Kwesi Aikens of the PNDC government. Hilla Limann
Hilla Limann, (12 December 1934 – 23 January 1998) was a Ghanaian diplomat and politician who served the President of Ghana from 24 September 1979 to 31 December 1981. He served as a diplomat in Lome, Togo and Geneva, Switzerland. Education Limann, whose original last name was Babini, was born in the northern Gold Coast town of Gwollu in the Sissala West District of the Upper West Region to a poor family. He managed to gain an excellent education, and took up a foreign service career. Hilla completed his basic school education at the Government Middle School, Tamale, in 1949. Between 1957 and 1960, he studied Political Science at the London School of Economics. He subsequently completed a Diploma in French at the Sorbonne University, France. He also obtained a BA (Hons) degree in history at the University of London and a Ph.D in Political Science and Constitutional Law at the University of Paris. Provisional National Defence Council
The Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) was the name of the Ghanaian government after the People's National Party's elected government was overthrown by Jerry Rawlings, the former head of the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council, in a coup d'état on 31 December 1981. He remained in power until 7 January 1993. In a statement, Rawlings said that a "holy war" was necessary due to the PNP's failure to provide effective leadership and the collapse of the national economy and state services. The PNDC was a military dictatorship that induced civilians to participate in governance. Most of its members were civilians. Ghana Bar Association
The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) is a professional association of lawyers in Ghana, including what used to be called solicitors and barristers but are now called legal practitioners, as well as magistrates. By convention all lawyers admitted to practice in Ghana become automatic members of the association. The GBA has its roots in the Gold Coast Bar Association, the first president of which was Sierra Leonean lawyer Francis (Frans) Dove. History and membership The British parliament established the Supreme Court of Judicature for the Gold Coast Colony in 1876, with a Chief Justice and no more than four Puisne Justices. Joe Reindorf
Joe Reindorf (1924 – 1996) was a Ghanaian historian, lawyer and politician. He served in the third republic as Attorney General and minister for Justice of Ghana. Early life and education Formerly a pupil of Achimota School, his contemporaries included K. B. Asante, Victor Owusu and R. R. Amponsah. He was a research student in history at Cambridge University in 1951, completing his studies in 1956 and finishing a law degree at the same time. Career He was called to the English bar in 1954. He returned to Ghana after his research studies in 1956 to enter into private legal practice. In 1962 he joined the University of Ghana as a research fellow in history.
