Archery In India
The national Indian governing body of archery as a sport in India is the Archery Association of India. Deepika Kumari is the first Indian archer to achieve World Number 1 rank in Women's Individual Recurve. She achieved this feat on 14 June in 2012. She again achieved the feat by reaching #1 rank on 28 June 2021. She has won an individual gold medal in archery at the Archery at the 2010 Commonwealth Games – Women's recurve individual, 2010 Commonwealth Games, beating Olympic bronze medalist Alison Williamson. She has also won 5 medals in World Cup Finals which include 4 individual silver medal. She has also won 2 silver medals in World Archery Championships as part of the women's recurve team. Archery Association Of India
Archery Association of India (AAI) is the national governing body of archery in India. Its headquarters are located in New Delhi, and its current president is Arjun Munda, AAI is a non-profit, government funded organisation affiliated by World Archery Federation (IAF), Asian Archery Federation (AAF) and Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and recognized by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of India. AAI came into existence on 8 August 1973 after archery was reintroduced to the Olympic Games in 1972. It is responsible for organising, promoting and controlling the sport of archery in India. 2019 World Archery Championships
The 2019 World Archery Championships were held in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands from 10 to 16 June 2019. The event served as a qualifier for the Archery at the 2020 Summer Olympics, 2020 Summer Olympics, with each men's and women's team that made the quarter-finals earning three quota places for the respective team. There were also quota places for the top four individuals in the singles competition, for those who failed to get quotas in the team events. Sumangala Sharma
Sumangala Sharma (born 30 December 1986) is an athlete from India. She competes in archery. Sharma represented India at the 2004 Summer Olympics. She placed 20th in the women's individual ranking round with a 72-arrow score of 638. In the first round of elimination, she faced 45th-ranked Chen Li Ju of Chinese Taipei. Sharma defeated Chen, winning 142-133 in the 18-arrow match to advance to the round of 32. Reena Kumari
Reena Kumari (born 15 January 1984) is an athlete from India who competes in archery. Kumari represented India at the 2004 Summer Olympics. She placed 43rd in the women's individual ranking round with a 72-arrow score of 620. In the first round of elimination, she faced 22nd-ranked Kristine Esebua of Georgia (country), Georgia. Kumari pulled off a surprising upset, defeating Esebua 153-149 in the 18-arrow match to advance to the round of 32. In that round, she faced Bhutanese archer Tshering Choden (archer), Tshering Chhoden. Kumari won the match in a 7-4 tie-breaker after a 134-134 tie in the regulation 18 arrows, advancing to the round of 16. She then lost to 6th-ranked Yuan Shu Chi of Chinese Taipei 166-148, finishing 15th in women's individual archery. Kumari was also a member of the 8th-place Indian women's archery team. Archery at the 2004 Summer Olympics was held at Panathinaiko Stadium in Athens, Greece with ranking rounds on 12 August and regular competition held from 15 August to 21 August. One hundred twenty-eight archers from forty-three nations competed in the four gold medal events—individual and team events for men and for women—that were contested at these games. Asian Archery Championships
Asian Archery Championships is the archery championship organized by the World Archery Asia. It has been held biannually, and since 2001 has included both the recurve and compound disciplines. Limba Ram
Limba Ram is an Indian archer who represented India in international competitions, including three Olympics. He equalled an archery world record in 1992 at the Asian Archery Championships in Beijing. He was awarded the Padma Shri Award in 2012. Early life Limba Ram was born in Saradeet Village (Jhadol tahsil, Udaipur district, Rajasthan state, India) on January 30, 1972. His family belongs to the Ahari tribe and because of poverty, Limba Ram relied on hunting birds like sparrows, partridges as well as other animals in the jungle with his indigenous bamboo bow and reed arrows. In 1987, one of his Uncles brought news that government would be conducting trials in the nearby village of Makradeo to train good archers. At this trial, 15-year-old Limba Ram and three other boys (among whom was future Arjuna Award winning Archer Shyam Lal) were spotted by selectors of the Sports Authority of India. Arjuna Award
The Arjuna Award, officially known as Arjuna Awards for Outstanding Performance in Sports and Games, is the second-highest sporting honour of India, the highest being the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award. The award is named after Arjuna, one of the characters of the Sanskrit epic ''Mahabharata'' of ancient India. He is the main protagonist of the epic. He is considered one of the greatest warriors of ancient India after Rama and Parshurama. In Hinduism, he has been seen as a symbol of hard work, dedication and concentration.
