Archery At The 2016 Summer Paralympics – Women's Individual Compound Open
The Women's individual compound open archery discipline at the 2016 Summer Paralympics was contested from September 10 to September 16. Ranking rounds took place on 10 September, while single elimination knockout rounds continued on September 16. In the ranking rounds each archer shot 72 arrows, and was seeded according to score. In the knock-out stages each archer shot three arrows in each of five sets against an opponent, and scores were aggregated. Matches were won by the higher aggregate scorer. Losing semifinalists competed in a bronze medal match. Ranking Round PR = Paralympic Record. Jodie Grinham
Jodie Grinham (born 26 July 1993) is a British archer who represented Great Britain at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro. Personal life Grinham was born with a short left arm and no fingers and half a thumb on her left hand. She was the first person with such a disability to attempt archery, so to avoid breaking the rule that the bow must not be attached to the archer, Grinham and her father Symon created a novel way of helping her grip her bow. She is a student at BPP Law School in Waterloo, London. Career Grinham first started archery in 2008. María Carmen Rubio
María Carmen Rubio Larrion (born 17 September 1961) is an archer from Spain. She has represented Spain in archery at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, and at the World Championships, where she finished sixth in the women's individual compound event in 2013. She has also represented Spain at European Championships. Personal Rubio was born in Pamplona, Navarra on 17 September 1961. She continued to reside in the region in 2013. Handan Biroğlu
Handan Biroğlu (born March 1, 1981) is a Turkish female para-archer competing in the women's compound bow event. She represents her country at the 2016 Paralympics. Early life Handan Biroğlu was born in Erzincan, Turkey on March 1, 1981. She resides in Ankara. In 2001, she was paralyzed due to a spinal cord injury she sustained in a bus accident, and has since required the use of a wheelchair. Biroğlu became pregnant about a year after her accident. During her pregnancy, physicians advised her to abort due to her paraplegia and to her fetus' brain defect. However, she decided to give birth, risking her own life. Two years after her accident, she became the mother of a daughter. Six years after her daughter's birth, she and her husband separated. Biroğlu raised her daughter Nurdan alone in her father's home.
