Archery At The 2016 Summer Paralympics – Team Compound Open
The mixed team compound open event was one of three team events held in archery at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro. It contained ten teams of one man and one woman, and took place on Monday 12 September 2016, the ranking round having been held on September 10. from paralympic.org Following the restructure of the Paralympic archery events, this was the first time the event would take place. Following a ranking round, the teams ranked 7th to 10th entered the knockout rounds at the first round stages, with the six highest seeded teams entering in the quarter final round. Handan Biroğlu
Handan Biroğlu (born March 1, 1981) is a Turkish female para-archer competing in the women's compound bow event. She represents her country at the 2016 Paralympics. Early life Handan Biroğlu was born in Erzincan, Turkey on March 1, 1981. She resides in Ankara. In 2001, she was paralyzed due to a spinal cord injury she sustained in a bus accident, and has since required the use of a wheelchair. Biroğlu became pregnant about a year after her accident. During her pregnancy, physicians advised her to abort due to her paraplegia and to her fetus' brain defect. However, she decided to give birth, risking her own life. Two years after her accident, she became the mother of a daughter. Six years after her daughter's birth, she and her husband separated. Biroğlu raised her daughter Nurdan alone in her father's home. Kevin Evans (born 28 September 1962) is a Canadian Paralympic archer. He has competed three times at the Summer Paralympics, four times at the World Para Archery Championships, four times at the Continental Championships, and twice at the Para Continental Championships. Biography Evans started archery in 1979 and made his international debut in 2004. A gold medallist at the 2011 Parapan American Games and two-time world champion, Evans is one of the world's top Paralympic archers.
