Olympic Baseball Centre (Athens)
The Hellinikon Olympic Complex is a closed, partially demolished sports complex, situated at Hellinikon in the south Athens, approximately 16 kilometres from the Athens Olympic Sports Complex, Olympic Village. It was built on the site of the former Hellinikon International Airport for the staging of the 2004 Summer Olympics and 2004 Summer Paralympics. It consists of five separate venues. Kathleen Smith or Kathy Critchlow-Smith is a British Paralympic archer who has competed at five Paralympics. Life It was the 1992 Summer Paralympics in Barcelona that first made Smith aware of international competition. She was one of the 21 women and 74 men there from 26 countries to compete at seven sports. Great Britain won no medals at archery that year. Smith saw that her competitors had coaches to encourage them. She had already met Ray Fields so on her return in 1994 she joined Sportsable which was a sports disability club in Maidenhead. Smith's motive was to gain Fields as a coach. Fields had become disabled when he was 70 years old. She concentrated on her archery skills and by 1996 she was considered an elite sportswoman and a contestant at the 1996 Atlanta Paralympics. Anita Chapman MBE (born 3 July 1952) is a British Paralympic archer who won medals at four Paralympics. Career In individual medals she won silver at the 1996 Summer Paralympics she joined Kathleen Smith and Rebecca Gale to gain a bronze medal for the UK in the women's archery team open. This was better than 1992 when the UK had won no medals. Chapman won gold at the 2000 Summer Paralympics. Aaron Cross (born in Waterloo, Iowa, on June 28, 1975) is a quadriplegic American archer. Education and sport He graduated from Augsburg College in 1997. He competed in the 1996 Summer Paralympics and in the 2000 Summer Paralympics, but did not medal either time. He went on to compete in the 2002 Wheelchair Archery World Championships in Nymburk.
