Archery At The 2000 Summer Olympics – Men's Team
The men's team was an archery event held as part of the archery at the 2000 Summer Olympics programme. A total of 14 teams competed in the third appearance of the Olympic team round archery event. The ranking round, which determined the seeds for all teams, doubled as the ranking round for the individual competition and was held on 16 September 2000. Each archer shot 72 arrows, and the scores of the three archers for each team were summed to give a team ranking round score. A single-elimination head-to-head tournament was held on 22 September. During each round of competition, each archer shot nine arrows for a team score based on 27 arrows. The losers of the semifinals faced off in a bronze medal match, while teams defeated before then were assigned rankings within the group of other teams defeated in their round based on their score in that round. Sydney International Archery Park
The Sydney International Archery Park was specially designed for Archery at the 2000 Summer Olympics, archery during the 2000 Summer Olympics. The stadium is located in Sydney Olympic Park. It was designed by Peter Stutchbury, Stutchbury and Pape.Philip Goad, Goad, Philip: ''New Directions in Australian Architecture'', Pesaro, 2001 The Archery Centre is located opposite the Waterfront Apartments on Bennelong Parkway, and is about 3 km from Sydney Olympic Park town centre. The venue hosts a wide range of events, such as school holiday programs for kids, beginners' courses, school programs, casual archers and professional coaching. There are facilities available for corporate team building, as well as laser clay pigeon shooting. The venue sports a 100 x 10 metre Archery pavilion, and has parking spaces for bicycles and 80 motor vehicles. Magnus Petersson
Magnus Petersson (born 17 June 1975 in Gothenburg) is an archer from Sweden. He is an experienced Olympian, having won a silver medal in 1996. Petersson advanced to the semifinals in archery at the 2000 Summer Olympics, but was defeated there by Vic Wunderle. In the consolation bronze medal match, he again lost, this time to Wietse van Alten. The Swedish team, of which he was a member, placed 6th. Petersson competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in men's individual archery. He won his first match, advancing to the round of 32. In the second round of elimination, he was defeated. His final rank was 23rd overall. Petersson was also a member of the 9th-place Swedish men's archery team. Wietse Van Alten
Wietse Cornelis van Alten (born 24 September 1978) is a retired archer from the Netherlands. Van Alten was born in Zaandam, in the municipality of Zaanstad. He has competed in archery since the age of seven. Van Alten's first major international competition was the 1999 World Target Competition. He placed 8th there, earning a spot on the Olympic team. In the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, van Alten lost to Simon Fairweather of Australia in the semifinals, but rebounded with the highest score of the tournament for a 12-arrow match by scoring 114 in the bronze medal match to defeat Magnus Petersson of Sweden and win the bronze medal.
