Aranmula International Airport was an airport project planned to be built at Aranmula, Pathanamthitta district of Kerala in India, at a cost of . The airport never received the necessary clearances and the project was abandoned. The airport was proposed to be built on about of land. The controversial project faced strong protest from environmentalists and opposition parties of Kerala. After the Supreme Court of India ratified an order of National Green Tribunal verdict declaring the Aranmula Airport Project in violation of environmental requirements, the Government of India withdrew its sanction for the airport, leading to the termination of the project. Aranmula
Aranmula is a temple town in the state of Kerala, India. It is known as the cultural capital of Pathanamthitta district, located at a distance of around 116 km from Trivandrum, the capital of Kerala, it is situated on the banks of the river Pampa. A centre of pilgrimage from time immemorial and a trade post of eminence, when the river was the chief means of transport, it is near Kozhenchery in Pathanamthitta District. Kummanam Rajasekharan
Kummanam Rajasekharan (born 23 December 1952) is an Indian politician and former governor of Mizoram (2018–2019). He began his political career as an activist of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Sangh Parivar in Kerala in 1970. From 2015 to 2018, he was the state president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kerala. He is the first BJP leader from Kerala to become governor. He currently serves as the administrative committee member of the Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He actively contested for BJP in various Loksabha and assembly elections in Kerala. Rajasekharan worked as a journalist between 1974 and 1976, before joining the Food Corporation of India. He became a high-ranking official of the Kerala Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) during that time. Sabarimala Airport
Sabarimala Greenfield Airport , also known as Kottayam Airport, Believers' Church Airport or Cheruvally Estate Airport, is a proposed greenfield international airport, which will serve the cities of Kottayam and Alappuzha and the famous pilgrimage site of Sabarimala in the state of Kerala, India. The airport will be built in between the towns of Erumeli South and Manimala, nearby to the larger neighbouring towns of Cheruvally and Ranni. The nearest town with a railway station is Thiruvalla (34 km). The proposed site is 53.9 km away from Sabarimala temple and 9.2 km away from Kanjirappally town. Pathanamthitta is the closest major town from the proposed site, about 25 km away, while Kottayam is about 44 km away. The site is spread over of area. The Kerala State Biodiversity Board
The Kerala State Biodiversity Board (KSBB) is one of the 28 state biodiversity boards set up by the National Biodiversity Authority in India. It is an autonomous body of the Government of Kerala. KSBB headquarters is located at Thiruvananthapuram. The board falls under the provision of the State Biodiversity Act set up in 2008 and the Biological Diversity Act, 2002. The Board is headed by a Chairman, a Member Secretary and followed by a team of expert Government officials, leading the board in its activities.
