Henry Arana
Henry Arana Rodríguez (May 1, 1921 – February 23, 2008) was a composer of popular songs who was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and lived all but the last years of his life in Puerto Rico. At the time of his death, from complications related to a neurological disease, he was residing in Alabama and was married to Carmen Mártir Santiago. He served in the United States Army in World War II. Arana composed hundreds of songs made popular by a wide variety of Puerto Rican artists, including Cano Estremera, Bobby Valentín, Willie Rosario, El Gran Combo, Cortijo y su Combo, Tito Rojas, Andy Montañez, Gilberto Santa Rosa, La Sonora Ponceña, Mario Ortiz and Mario Hernández, as well as Mexican artists, such as Adrián Alejandro. Mariano Arana (born March 6, 1933, in Montevideo) is an Uruguayan architect and politician, former Minister of Housing, Spatial Planning and Environment of Uruguay and former mayor of Montevideo. Biography Son and grandson of Spanish immigrants, Arana attended the Lycée Français de Montevideo and is a graduate of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of the Republic. He was also teacher and Director of the Institute of History of Architecture, among the many other activities during college. Marco Antonio Arana Zegarra (born in Cajamarca on October 20, 1962) is a Peruvian politician, sociologist, professor and former priest, founder and activist of the Tierra y Libertad Movement. Manuel Jesús Arana Rodríguez (born 3 December 1984) is a Spanish former footballer who played as a right winger. He played 75 La Liga matches over four seasons, totalling seven goals for Racing de Santander and Rayo Vallecano. Luis Arana Urigüen (14 February 1874 – 7 June 1951) was a Spanish footballer who played as a goalkeeper who won the 1902 Copa de la Coronación with Club Bizcaya. Lucrècia Arana ( Haro, 23 November 1871 - Madrid, 9 March 1927) was a Spanish soprano-contralto singer. She is remembered for her unique voice and style in the zarzuela genre. Biography Arana's father died during the Third Carlist War when she was only one year old. As a young woman, she moved to Madrid for singing lessons with the best teachers of the time. In 1887, at the age of fifteen, she made her debut with a minor role in the play "La mascota" at the Teatro Price in Madrid. With the Julian Romea company, she went on to perform in various locations in Spain, including in her hometown. From 1896 to 1898, she was performing at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid. After marrying Mariano Benlliure in 1908, she retired from the stage. Arana died in 1927 of a stroke in her home and was buried in the Cemetery of San Justo, in Madrid. A major figure in the rubber industry in the upper Amazon basin, he is probably best known in the English-speaking world through 's 1909 articles in the British magazine ''Truth'', accusing him of practices that amounted to a terroristic reign of slavery over the natives of the region. Don Juan Antonio de Urrutia y Arana Perez de Inoriza y Chávarri was a rich and powerful nobleman and patron of the arts in 18th-century Querétaro, in the Viceroyalty of New Spain (Colonial Mexico). He built and paid from his own money the Aqueduct to bring water from the springs in "La Cañada" (the Ravine) to the city of Querétaro, which includes the 74-arch aqueduct, now a landmark.
