The Arab Democratic Party (ADP) ( ar, الحزب العربي الديمقراطي, translit=Al-Hizb Al-'Arabi Al-Dimuqrati) or Parti Démocratique Arabe (PDA) in French, is a Lebanese political party, based in Tripoli, in the North Lebanon Governorate. Its current leader is Rifaat Eid. Origins The ADP traced back its origins to an earlier leftist students' organization called the Alawite Youth Movement (AYM) (Arabic: حركة الشباب العلوي , ''Harakat al-Shabab al-Alawiyya'') or Mouvement de la Jeunesse Alaouite (MJA) in French, originally formed in 1972 at Tripoli by Ali Eid, a former teacher. As its name implies, the AYM drew its support from the Shia Alawite minority sect of Lebanon, even receiving the personal backing of Rifa'at al-Assad, Syria's vice-president at the time and himself a member of that sect. The Arab Democratic Party ( he, translit=Miflaga Demokratit Aravit, מפלגה דמוקרטית ערבית; ar, ألحزب الديمقراطي العربي, translit=al-Hizb al-Dimuqrati al-Arabi), commonly known in Israel by its Hebrew acronym Mada (מד"ע), is a political party in Israel. Between the mid-1990s and 2012 it was a faction within the United Arab List. Background The party was formed on 15 February 1988, towards the end of the term of the eleventh Knesset, when Abdulwahab Darawshe broke away from the Alignment to create his own faction in protest at the party's policy on the First Intifada. At the time of its founding, the party was the only solely Israeli Arab faction in the Knesset (although the Progressive List for Peace's only MK was an Israeli Arab, the party also had Jewish membership), and the first since the demise of the original United Arab List in the 1981 elections. The Arab Democratic Nasserist Party ( ar, الحزب العربي الديمقراطي الناصري, al-Hizb al-'Arabi al-Dimuqrati al-Nasseri) is a Nasserist political party in Egypt, styling itself as the ideological successor of the old Arab Socialist Union party of Egypt's second president, Gamal Abdel Nasser. At the 2000 parliamentary elections, the party won three out of 454 seats. However, at the 2005 and 2010 elections, the party failed to win any seats. At the 2015 election, the party won one seat.
