Aptos High School
Aptos High School is a comprehensive secondary school in Aptos, California, USA in the Pajaro Valley Unified School District. Aptos High serves the communities of Rio Del Mar, Corralitos, Seacliff, Seascape, La Selva Beach, Buena Vista and Watsonville. Historically, Aptos has been one of the largest high schools in Santa Cruz County, but recently Watsonville High School and Pajaro Valley High School have surpassed its enrollment. In addition to standard curriculum, Aptos High School offers video production, computer technology, and various other courses. Some of the music classes, such as guitar, were dropped due to cuts in the California school budget. Recently, however, music classes such as band and drumline have been reintroduced. As of 2008 Aptos High School has a new Performing Arts Center, where school plays are performed. Aptos
Aptos (Ohlone for "The People") is an unincorporated town in Santa Cruz County, California. The town is made up of several small villages, which together form Aptos: Aptos Hills-Larkin Valley, Aptos Village, Cabrillo, Seacliff, Rio del Mar, and Seascape. Together, they have a combined population of 24,402. History Aptos was traditionally inhabited by the Awaswas tribe of Ohlone people. The name is one of only three native words that have survived (in Hispanicized form) as place names in Santa Cruz County (the others are Soquel and Zayante). The first European land exploration of Alta California, the Spanish Portolá expedition, passed through the area on its way north, camping at one of the creeks on October 16, 1769. The expedition diaries don't provide enough information to be sure which creek it was, but the direction of travel was northwest, parallel to the coast. Jared Tyler Koenig (born January 24, 1994) is an American professional baseball pitcher who is currently a free agent. Amateur career Koenig grew up in Aptos, California and attended Aptos High School. Koenig began his college baseball career at Central Arizona College. He was selected in the 35th round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft by the Chicago White Sox, but was not offered a contract by the team along with other late-round picks after signing first rounder Carlos Rodón to an above-slot signing bonus. Jeff Schalk (born February 6, 1974 in Santa Cruz, California) is a retired professional mountain bike racer. His racing career began in 2006 when he took hiatus from a career in structural engineering, practicing in San Francisco, California. He moved to Washington, D.C. to pursue racing full-time with the Trek Volkswagen East Coast factory team. Schalk's major career breakthrough occurred in 2007 when he won the Shenandoah 100, establishing himself as a primary name in the domestic MTB endurance scene. In the 19th century, the term strongman referred to an exhibitor of strength or similar circus performers who performed feats of strength. More recently, strength athletics, also known as strongman competitions, have grown in popularity. Robert Oberst (born December 20, 1984) is a retired former American professional strongman competitor. He is a yearly competitor of the World's Strongest Man competition and a finalist in the 2013 and 2018 World's Strongest Man competitions ending up in 9th and 8th place respectively.
