''Apsara'' ( km, អប្សរា, ) is a 1966 Cambodian romantic drama film edited, written, and directed by Norodom Sihanouk, who was Cambodia's Chief of State and former King. It stars Nhiek Tioulong, Saksi Sbong, Princess Norodom Buppha Devi, and Prince Sisowath Chivan Monirak. ''Apsara'' is Sihanouk's first feature-length film, as well as his first film in colour. He made the film in part to counter the negative portrayal of Cambodia he saw in the 1965 British-American film ''Lord Jim''. The film premiered at the LUX Theater in Phnom Penh on 20 August 1966. Norodom Sihanouk (; km, នរោត្តម សីហនុ, ; 31 October 192215 October 2012) was a Cambodian statesman, Sangkum and FUNCINPEC politician, Norodom Sihanouk filmography, film director, and composer who led Cambodia in various capacities throughout his long career, most often as both Monarchy of Cambodia, King and Prime Minister of Cambodia. Sinn Sisamouth; (c. 1932 – c. 1976) was a Cambodian singer-songwriter active from the 1950s to the 1970s. Widely considered the "King of Khmer Music", Sisamouth, along with Ros Serey Sothea, Pen Ran, Mao Sareth, and other Cambodian artists, was part of a thriving pop music scene in Phnom Penh that blended elements of Khmer traditional music with the sounds of rhythm and blues and rock and roll to develop a Cambodian rock sound. Norodom Phurissara
Prince Norodom Phurissara ( km, នរោត្ដម ភូរីស្សរ៉ា, October 13, 1919 – April 1976) was a prominent leftist Cambodian politician of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, who held a number of ministerial posts. A member of the Cambodian royal family, he disappeared during the political purges carried out by the Communist Party of Cambodia (the Khmer Rouge) after it came to power. Education and early political career Phurissara was a descendant of Norodom of Cambodia, and a cousin of King Norodom Sihanouk. He studied law at the Royal University of Phnom Penh. In 1954, he became Secretary-General of the Democratic Party, which until that point had been the dominant force in Cambodian internal politics. ''The Cambodia Daily'' is an English and Khmer language news site that writes and aggregates news about Cambodia. It was originally an English-language daily newspaper based in Cambodia from 1993 to 2017, and was considered a newspaper of record for Cambodia. Nhiek Tioulong ( km, ញឹក ជូឡុង; 23 August 1908 – 9 June 1996) was a Cambodian army officer, politician, and actor who served as Acting Prime Minister of Cambodia from 13 February 1962 to 6 August 1962. He was a prominent politician during the tenure of Prince Norodom Sihanouk. He also served as Minister for Foreign Affairs in the 1960s and repeatedly as governor of provinces in Cambodia.
