Aprite Le Finestre
"Aprite le finestre" ("Open the windows") is an Italian song by Franca Raimondi. It won the sixth edition of the Sanremo Music Festival and subsequently was the first entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1956 (contest rules allowing two entries per country at this contest only). Background The song is in the Tuscan style, with Raimondi singing about the joy of Spring (described as "a festival of love") beginning and her desire to open the windows to let the new season in. At Eurovision The song was performed seventh on the night, following 's Michèle Arnaud with " Ne crois pas" and preceding the ' Corry Brokken with " Voorgoed voorbij". Points and final placings at this Contest have never been revealed, meaning that the only statement which can be made about the song's final position was that it did not win. Franca Raimondi
Franca Raimondi (8 July 1932 – 22 April 1990) was an Italian singer. Biography Born in Monopoli, Province of Bari, Apulia, Raimondi studied operatic singing and foreign languages. In 1956, Raimondi was among the winners of a RAI contest of new voices and got the chance to perform at the 1956 edition of the Sanremo Music Festival, which she eventually won with the song "Aprite le finestre". That same year she represented Italy in the first Eurovision Song Contest with the same song, alongside Tonina Torrielli with "Amami se vuoi". Between 1956 and 1958 Raimondi was leading vocalist in the Gian Stellari Orchestra. In 1960 she entered the competition at the Festival di Napoli with "Canzone all'antica" ("Old-style song"). In the later years she slowed her activities, focusing her career on live performances. The Eurovision Song Contest 1957 was the second edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. Achille Togliani (16 January 1924 in Pomponesco, province of Mantua – 12 August 1995) was an Italian singer and actor. He was a participant in the first Sanremo Music Festival in 1951. Quartetto Cetra
Quartetto Cetra (; ) was an Italian jazz vocal quartet established during the early 1940s and active until 1988. Career The band was based on the Mills Brothers and started performing under the name Quartetto Egie from the initials of the singers' first names: Enrico Gentile, Giovanni Giacobetti, Iacopo Jacomelli, and Enrico De Angelis. Although they sang American songs such as "Tiger Rag", they wrote songs and scatted in Italian. Quartetto Egie made its debut on May 27, 1940 at the Valle Theatre in Rome. They performed the song "Bambina dall'abito blu" ("Little Girl in a Blue Dress"). When Virgilio Savona replaced Iacopo Jacomelli, the band was renamed Quartetto Ritmo. "Corde della mia chitarra" ("Strings of my guitar") is an Italian song written by , composed by , and performed by Nunzio Gallo and Claudio Villa. The song is the winner of the Italian national Sanremo Music Festival 1957 where it was performed twice by the two singers and the in the Eurovision Song Contest 1957. Both original recordings of the song are ranked among the top 100 most successful songs in Italy in 1957. Nunzio Gallo
Nunzio Gallo (25 March 1928 – 22 February 2008) was an Italian singer. He was born in Naples and represented his country in the 1957 Eurovision Song Contest, coming 6th. The song he performed, "Corde Della Mia Chitarra", is famous for being the longest song ever played for Eurovision at 5:09 before the new rules came into place. Gallo was also an actor appearing in over 20 films. Gallo suffered severe brain haemorrhage in September 2007 from which he never fully recovered. He died on 22 February 2008 in Telese Terme.
