April Wine
April Wine is a Canadian rock band formed in 1969 and based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Led by singer-guitarist-songwriter Myles Goodwin since its inception, April Wine's first success came with its second album, '' On Record'' (1972), which reached the top 40 in Canada and yielded two hit singles: "Bad Side of the Moon", a top 20 hit in Canada; and "You Could Have Been a Lady", a number 2 song in Canada. The band would go on to enjoy international success during the rest of the 1970s and early 80s, releasing more than 20 albums. Jim Clench
James Patrick Clench (May 1, 1949 – November 3, 2010) was a Canadian bassist and vocalist known for his roles in the rock bands April Wine and Bachman–Turner Overdrive. With April Wine (first run) Clench was asked to join April Wine after their original bassist Jim Henman decided to leave the band in October 1971. Although Myles Goodwyn was April Wine's primary lead singer, Clench was lead vocalist on songs such as the hit singles "Oowatanite" (which he also wrote) and "Weeping Widow". In 1975, after recording three studio albums and one live, Clench decided to leave April Wine and was replaced by former Mashmakhan bassist Steve Lang. Early April Wine albums recorded with Clench include; '' On Record'' (1972), '' Electric Jewels'' (1973), '' Live!'' (1974), and '' Stand Back'' (1975), which was released just before he left the band. Carl Dixon
Carleton Anthony "Carl" Dixon is a Canadian rock singer, keyboard player and guitarist. He has been a member of the bands Coney Hatch, April Wine and The Guess Who. Early life and education Dixon was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and grew up listening to rock music in the 1970s. He graduated from Barrie North Collegiate Institute in 1977. Career Dixon moved to Montreal in 1979 to perform with a band called Firefly. In 1981, he left Firefly, moving to Toronto, where he answered an advertisement from the band Coney Hatch, becoming its lead singer. While with Coney Hatch, he wrote and co-wrote many of their hits, such as "Hey Operator" and "Devil's Deck". He spent most of the 1980s touring with Coney Hatch, opening for Iron Maiden's Piece of Mind Tour across North America, and Judas Priest's Screaming for Vengeance tour 1982. In the 1990s, he pursued his solo career writing for Rondor Publishing (now Universal) and oversaw the production of Coney Hatch's ''Best Of'' compilation ... Jerry Mercer
Gerald "Jerry" Mercer (born April 27, 1939) is a Canadian drummer, best known for his work with the rock groups Mashmakhan and April Wine. Personal life Mercer was born in Newfoundland. Prior to becoming a full-time musician, Mercer worked both as a cattle farmer and as an IBM computer programmer. Career Mercer's start in the music industry was as a singer, but quickly moved to drums while still a teenager. He played several different styles in his early years, including Latin and jazz, Jerry Mercer was the drummer for Trevor Payne and The Soul Brothers in the early 60s in Montreal. With the departure of Trevor Payne the group became known as The Triangle, who later changed their name to Mashmakhan upon obtaining a record deal in Toronto. Mercer's work can be heard on the band's most successful single "As the Years Go By". The band played with some of the biggest acts of their era, and recorded one album, ''Cross Country Man'' for Revolver Records. History Chimo! evolved from Georgian IV, a band formed in Parry Sound in 1962 by John Johnson, Ross Raby, Stewart McCann and Rick King. Waverley is a suburban community of the Halifax Regional Municipality, in Nova Scotia, Canada. It has a rich history in gold mining. It lies north of Dartmouth, and south of Fall River. History Waverley was first settled by Charles Pillsbury Allen who established a chair factory in the area. Waverley was named after the Waverley novels by Sir Walter Scott. Allen's original land purchase included about of land in 1847 for the price of 50 pounds. Although there have been extensive renovations since it was first built, his original house still stands today at 2550 Rocky Lake Drive as "An Olde Manor House Bed and Breakfast" near the junction of Lakes Thomas and William. The album spawned the hit "You Could Have Been a Lady" a cover of the Hot Chocolate song that was only released one year earlier. The song peaked at No. 32 on May 19, 1972 on the Billboard Hot 100.
