Aslan Bzhania
Aslan Georgievich Bzhania ( ab, Аслан Гьаргь-иҧа Бжьаниа, ka, ასლან გიორგის-ძე ბჟანია, russian: Аслан Георгиевич Бжания; born 6 April 1963) has been President of Abkhazia since 23 April 2020. He was the Head of the State Security Service from 2010 to 2014, and one of the leaders of the opposition in Abkhazia from 2016. He ran in the 2019 presidential election, but was forced to withdraw due to poisoning. He won the subsequent 2020 presidential election. Early life Bzhania was born on 6 April 1963 in the village of Tamysh, Ochamchira District. In 1985, he graduated from the Moscow Automobile and Road Construction University. The Government of President Raul Khajimba was the Government of the Republic of Abkhazia from 2014 until 2020. Composition Formation President Raul Khajimba and Vice President Vitali Gabnia were elected on 24 August 2014 after the resignation of previous President Alexander Ankvab, and sworn in on 25 September 2014. Khajimba had led the opposition during the May Revolution against Ankvab. After Ankvab's resignation on 1 June, Speaker of the People's Assembly of Abkhazia Valeri Bganba had been Acting President. During the election, Khajimba competed with State Security Service chairman Aslan Bzhania, Defence Minister Mirab Kishmaria and former Interior Minister Leonid Dzapshba. Vitali Gabnia was chairman of the veterans' movement Aruaa before his election. Abkhazian Presidential Election, 2014
Presidential elections were held in the Republic of Abkhazia on 24 August 2014. The sixth such elections since the post of President of Abkhazia was created in 1994, they were held early due to the resignation of President Alexander Ankvab on 1 June 2014 following the 2014 Abkhazian political crisis. Four candidates contested the elections, which were won by Raul Khadjimba, who received just over 50% of the vote. Background On 27 May, opposition protesters stormed the Presidential administration, prompting Ankvab to flee to Gudauta. The resulting crisis culminated in his resignation on 1 June. As Vice President Mikhail Logua had already resigned in December 2013 due to ill health, Speaker of the People's Assembly of Abkhazia Valeri Bganba has become acting president. Political Parties In Abkhazia
This article lists political parties and socio-political movements in the partially recognised Republic of Abkhazia. Abkhazia has a multi-party system. Political parties tend to not have stable ideological platforms, and as such, party actions and support tend to depend on the attitudes/beliefs of the party leader. The current coalition is formed by United Abkhazia, Amtsakhara and Aitaira. Political parties There are ten political parties in Abkhazia, two of which are represented in the People's Assembly.
