''Appointment in Berlin'' (also known as ''Assignment in Berlin'') is a 1943 American war drama film directed by Alfred E. Green and starring George Sanders, Marguerite Chapman and Onslow Stevens. The film's plot follows an R.A.F. officer who infiltrates the German high command by broadcasting a series of pro-Nazi messages. Premise After being discharged from the Royal Air Force for anti-British activities, an officer becomes a secret agent for Britain's Secret Service. He denounces his country and poses as a radio personality for Nazi Germany. Lester Matthews
Arthur Lester Matthews (6 June 1900 – 5 June 1975) was an English actor. In his career, the handsome Englishman made more than 180 appearances in film and on television. He was erroneously credited in later years as Les Matthews. Matthews played supporting roles in films like ''The Raven'' and ''Werewolf of London'' (both 1935), but his career deteriorated into bit parts. Donald Douglas (born Douglas William Kinleyside, 24 August 1905 – 31 December 1945) was a Scottish actor in the United States who performed in films, on the stage and in radio. Background He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, 24 August 1905, and was christened at a church in Twickenham, England. Young Douglas was the son of William Young Kinleyside, a businessman and lawyer. Herbert Evans (16 April 1882 – 10 February 1952) was an English film actor. He appeared in over 180 films between 1916 and 1952. Biography Evans started his acting career in 1914 at the World Film Company in Fort Lee, New Jersey. His performances include the Earl of Glenheather Castle in The Three Stooges comedy ''The Hot Scots'' and its remake '' Scotched in Scotland'', the well-meaning but clueless butler Wilkes in ''Vagabond Loafers’’ and in the ''Our Gang'' short ''Shrimps for a Day''. Leyland Hodgson (5 October 1892 – 16 March 1949), also known as Leland Hodgson, was an English-born American character actor of the 1930s and 1940s. Born in London on 5 October 1892, Hodgson entered the theater in 1898. In his early 20s, Hodgson was part of a touring theater company, spending his time in the British areas of the Far East, before entering the stage in Australia. In 1930 he would move to the United States, where he would make his film debut in the Oscar-nominated film, ''The Case of Sergeant Grischa'' in 1930. Over his almost twenty-year career, he would appear in over 130 films, mostly in supporting or smaller roles.
