Apple Tree House
''Apple Tree House'' is a television drama series produced by CBeebies for children ages 1 to 6. It is set on the fictitious Apple Tree House estate in London, and filmed in Bromley-by-Bow. It was produced by Five Apples Ltd for the BBC. Apple Tree House was also available on BBC iPlayer for over a year. History The series was originally proposed as an animated series by ''Rastamouse'' producers Eugenio Perez and Gregory Boardman. The live action series was created by William Vanderpuye, Maria Timotheou and Akindele Akinsiku, drawing on their own childhood experiences. The CBeebies commissioner said of the show that "The urban setting is important for a lot of children. When you’re a child you do read stories and they are a bit idealistic - this will be more real and more authentic." CBeebies is a British free-to-air public broadcast children's television channel owned and operated by the BBC. It is also the brand used for all BBC content for children aged 6 years and under. Its sister channel CBBC is aimed at older children ages 6–12. It broadcasts every day from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm, timesharing with BBC Four. Bromley-by-Bow
Bromley, commonly known as Bromley-by- Bow, is a district in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets in East London, located on the western banks of the River Lea, in the Lower Lea Valley in East London. The area is distinct from Bow, which lies immediately north of the formal boundary between the two, which runs along Bow Road, or near the Lea, slightly to the south of the Road. The area has historically been known as both Bromley and Bromley-by-Bow. In 1967, the latter name was chosen as the new name for Bromley tube station, a change designed to prevent confusion with Bromley railway station in the London Borough of Bromley. The formal boundaries of the area were set when the area became an parish in 1537 when it split from Stepney. The boundaries of the new parish were based on those of much older pre-existing estates. Rastamouse
''Rastamouse'' is a stop motion animated children's television series created by Genevieve Webster and Michael De Souza and produced by Three Stones Media/The Rastamouse Company and DHX Media for CBeebies. The show follows crime busting mouse reggae band Da Easy Crew, who split their time between making music and solving mysteries for the President of Mouseland. The first 52 episodes of the initial series were shown in the afternoon beginning 31 January 2011 on CBeebies, a UK BBC channel. From 7 March 2011, the programme was repeated in the early mornings, on BBC2. The second series, comprising a further 26 episodes, started on 20 August 2012. The third series, comprising the final 26 episodes, began on CBeebies 23 March 2015. William Vanderpuye
William Vanderpuye, also known as Will Vanderpuye or Will Vanders, is a British actor, broadcaster, writer, voice-over artist and producer. He played Zoomer and a cast of thousands in the BBC animation series Rastamouse and appeared as "Kobi" in the Bafta nominated BBC series Apple Tree House which he co-created, co wrote and co-produced. He is the grandson of Jacob Sylvanus Bruce-Vanderpuye, a Barrister-at-Law, Djastse and Ga Mantse (Paramount Chief) of The Otubluhun Stool, Jamestown, Accra, Ghana, formerly the British colony of the Gold Coast. The titles are hereditary, although not used by Vanderpuye or his father William Wallace Bruce-Vanderpuye Snr. The Bruce "Clan" (Nanka Bruce) are an aristocratic Ghanaian family with a pedigree tracing back to King Robert the Bruce of Scotland. Shaheen Khan (born 1960 in Moshi, Tanzania) is a British film, television and stage actress and playwright of Indian descent, based in London. Career Film and television Khan is best known for her role as Mrs Bhamra in the 2002 film ''Bend It Like Beckham''.
