AppleWorks User Group
The AppleWorks User Group is a group formed in 1991 to support users of Apple Inc's AppleWorks software suite. The group is often referred to as "AWUG". AWUG publishes a monthly newsletter, the ''AppleWorks Journal'', that provides hints, tips, and techniques for AppleWorks. It also provides its members with telephone and email support, as well as access to a "Members Helping Members" database (actually distributed as a PDF) and the "AppleWorks News Service" website, which provides timely news and information about AppleWorks. AppleWorks
AppleWorks was an integrated office suite containing a word processor, database, and spreadsheet. It was developed by Rupert Lissner for Apple Computer, originally for the Apple II platform and launched in 1984, and was later reworked for the Macintosh platform. The Apple subsidiary Claris created the new successor ClarisWorks for Apple IIGS (1988), Macintosh (1991), and Windows (1993). Those applications do not share any code with the 8-bit Apple II original. Apple absorbed Claris and the name ClarisWorks was changed to AppleWorks. It was bundled with all consumer-level Macintoshes sold by Apple until its discontinuation. As of 2007, AppleWorks had not been updated in several years and was unable to run on the Intel processors shipping in new Macs. Template (file Format)
The term document template used in the context of file format refers to a common feature of many software applications that define a unique non-executable file format intended specifically for that particular application. Template file formats are those whose file extension indicates that the file type is intended as a high starting point from which to create other files.
