Apostolic Nunciature To Turkey
The Apostolic Nunciature to Turkey is an ecclesiastical office of the Catholic Church in Turkey. It is a diplomatic post of the Holy See, whose representative is called the Apostolic Nuncio with the rank of an ambassador. Papal representation in the area that later became Turkey was initiated with the creation of the Apostolic Delegation to Constantinople in 1868, at a time when the Holy See had largely ceded the management of Church affairs in the region to the French Catholic Church. It was renamed the Apostolic Delegation to Turkey in 1930. In anticipation of the establishment of diplomatic relations, Pope John XXIII created the Apostolic Internunciature to Turkey on 29 February 1960. Pope Paul VI raised it to the full status of Apostolic Nunciature on 30 August 1966. Giacomo Testa
Giacomo Testa (3 April 1909 – 29 September 1962) was an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who worked in the diplomatic service of the Holy See and then headed its training program, the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy, from 1959 until his death at age 53 in 1962. Early in his diplomatic career, he worked closely with Archbishop Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli, who later as Pope John XXIII gave him his final appointment as President of the Academy. This is a list of diplomatic missions of the Holy See. Since the fifth century, long before the founding of the Vatican City State in 1929, papal envoys (now known as nuncios) have represented the Holy See to foreign potentates. Additionally, papal representatives known not as nuncios but as apostolic delegates ensure contact between the Holy See and the Catholic Church in countries that do not have diplomatic relations with the Holy See. At present, there is one residential apostolic delegate, for Jerusalem and Palestine, as well as non-residential delegates for four countries (Brunei, Laos, Mauritania, and Somalia) and for the territories and countries without diplomatic relations with the Holy See in three regions (the Arabian Peninsula, the Caribbean, the Pacific Ocean). Marek Solczyński is a Polish prelate of the Catholic Church who joined the diplomatic service of the Holy See in 1993 and served as an Apostolic Nuncio since 2011. Paul Fitzpatrick Russell (born May 2, 1959) is an American prelate of the Catholic Church who was appointed auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Detroit in May 2022. Edmond Farhat (20 May 1933 – 17 December 2016) was a Lebanese prelate of the Catholic Church who spent his career in the diplomatic service of the Holy See Biography Farhat was born in Ain Kfaa, Lebanon, on 20 May 1933. Pier Luigi Celata (born 23 January 1937) is an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who from July 2012 to December 2014 was Vice Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church. Sergio Sebastiani (born 11 April 1931) is an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who was head of the Prefecture for the Economic Affairs of the Holy See from 1997 to 2008.
