Apostolic Nunciature To Tunisia
The Apostolic Nunciature to Tunisia is the diplomatic mission of the Holy See to Tunisia. The Apostolic Nuncio to Tunisia is an ecclesiastical office of the Catholic Church in Tunisia, with the rank of an ambassador. The nuncio serves both as the ambassador of the Holy See to the State of Tunisia and as the point-of-contact between the Catholic hierarchy in Tunisia and the pope. The Vatican established the position of Delegate to Northern Africa in 1965; John Gordon held that post until 19 August 1967. Sante Portalupi succeeded him on 27 September 1967. The delegate's responsibilities were modified as the Holy See developed relationships with countries in the delegate's area of responsibility. Portalupi took on the titles of Apostolic Pro-Nuncio to Algeria on 6 March 1972, and Pro-Nuncio to Tunisia on 22 March 1972. A diplomatic mission or foreign mission is a group of people from a state or organization present in another state to represent the sending state or organization officially in the receiving or host state. In practice, the phrase usually denotes an embassy, which is the main office of a country's diplomatic representatives to another country; it is usually, but not necessarily, based in the receiving state's capital city. Consulates, on the other hand, are smaller diplomatic missions that are normally located in major cities of the receiving state (but can be located in the capital, typically when the sending country has no embassy in the receiving state). Augustine Kasujja
Augustine Kasujja (born 26 April 1946) is a Ugandan prelate of the Catholic Church who works in the diplomatic service of the Holy See. He was the Apostolic Nuncio to Belgium from 2016 to 2021. He was the first black African to hold the title of apostolic nuncio. Biography The third in a family of 11 children, he was born to Katalina Nanseko and Yozefu Naluswa in Mitala Maria, Mpigi District on 26 April 1946. Before joining Kisubi Minor Seminary between 1960 and 1965, he attended Ssango and Mitala Maria Primary Schools. He studied at the major seminary in Katigondo (1966–1967) and the Pontifical Urban University in Rome (1967–1974). He was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Kampala on 3 January 1973. Diplomatic Missions Of The Holy See
This is a list of diplomatic missions of the Holy See. Since the fifth century, long before the founding of the Vatican City State in 1929, papal envoys (now known as nuncios) have represented the Holy See to foreign potentates. Additionally, papal representatives known not as nuncios but as apostolic delegates ensure contact between the Holy See and the Catholic Church in countries that do not have diplomatic relations with the Holy See. At present, there is one residential apostolic delegate, for Jerusalem and Palestine, as well as non-residential delegates for four countries (Brunei, Laos, Mauritania, and Somalia) and for the territories and countries without diplomatic relations with the Holy See in three regions (the Arabian Peninsula, the Caribbean, the Pacific Ocean). Kurian Mathew Vayalunkal (born 4 August 1966) is an Indian prelate of the Catholic Church who works in the diplomatic service of the Holy See as Apostolic Nuncio to Algeria. Luciano Russo is an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who works in the diplomatic service of the Holy See. Biography Russo was born in Lusciano, Italy, on 23 June 1963. Thomas Yeh Sheng-nan
Thomas Yeh Sheng-nan (; born 26 June 1941) is a Taiwanese prelate of the Roman Catholic Church and diplomat of the Holy See. Biography Thomas Yeh Sheng-nan was born on 26 June 1941, in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, and was ordained priest on 27 March 1971, for the Diocese of Tainan. He holds a laurea degree in philosophy. In 1972 he was admitted to the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy to study diplomacy. Antonio Sozzo (born 9 May 1942) is an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who worked in the diplomatic service of the Holy See, including for twenty years as apostolic nuncio, before he retired in 2015. Edmond Farhat (20 May 1933 – 17 December 2016) was a Lebanese prelate of the Catholic Church who spent his career in the diplomatic service of the Holy See Biography Farhat was born in Ain Kfaa, Lebanon, on 20 May 1933. On 28 March 1959, the Maronite Patriarch of Antioch Paul Peter Meouchi ordained him a priest. He earned degrees in theology, philosophy and canon law in Paris and Rome and a doctorate in theology. Giovanni De Andrea (22 April 1928 – 19 January 2012) was an Italian Roman Catholic titular archbishop and diplomat. Education Ordained to the priesthood on June 29, 1951. From 1956 to 1958 he studied at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy, then he entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See.
