The Apostolic Nunciature to Cameroon the diplomatic mission of the Holy See to Cameroon. It is located in Yaoundé. The current Apostolic Nuncio is Archbishop Julio Murat, who was named to the position by Pope Francis on 24 March 2018. The Apostolic Nunciature to the Republic of Cameroon is an ecclesiastical office of the Catholic Church in Cameroon, with the rank of an embassy. The nuncio serves both as the ambassador of the Holy See to the President of Cameroon, and as delegate and point-of-contact between the Catholic hierarchy in Cameroon and the Pope. Yaoundé
Yaoundé (; , ) is the capital of Cameroon and, with a population of more than 2.8 million, the second-largest city in the country after the port city Douala. It lies in the Centre Region of the nation at an elevation of about 750 metres (2,500 ft) above sea level. The outpost of Epsumb or Jeundo was founded between the Nyong and Sanaga rivers at the northern edge of the area's forests in 1887 by German explorers as a trading base for rubber and ivory. A military garrison was built in 1895 which enabled further colonization. After Imperial Germany's defeat in World War I, France held eastern Cameroon as a mandate, and Yaoundé was chosen to become the capital of the colony in 1922. Douala remained the more important settlement, but Yaoundé saw rapid growth and continued as the seat of government for the Republic of Cameroon upon its independence in 1960. José Avelino Bettencourt ComC, OMRI (born 23 May 1962) is a Portuguese-Canadian prelate of the Catholic Church who has serves as Apostolic Nuncio to Armenia and Georgia since March 2018. Piero Pioppo (born 29 September 1960) is an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church, who has been Apostolic Nuncio to Indonesia since 2017. Biography Piero Pioppo was born in Savona, in Liguria, on 29 September 1960. He studied at the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Turin. Piero Pioppo was ordained a priest on 28 June 1985 for the diocese of Acqui First named vicar of a parish at Carcare, he was sent to Rome to continue his studies. Félix del Blanco Prieto (15 June 1937 – 10 April 2021) was a Spanish prelate of the Catholic Church who spent his career in the diplomatic service of the Holy See, including stints heading the missions in countries such as Angola and Malta among other countries. Santos Abril y Castelló (born 21 September 1936) is a Spanish prelate of the Catholic Church. After a career in the diplomatic corps of the Holy See, he held a number of positions in the Roman Curia and from 2011 to 2016 was Archpriest of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore. Donato Squicciarini (24 April 1927 – 5 March 2006) was an Italian Catholic archbishop who acted as Nuncio to Austria from 1989 to 2002. Squicciarini was born at Altamura, Apulia on 24 April 1927. He was ordained priest 12 April 1952, and ordained bishop and titular Archbishop of Tiburnia 26 Nov 1978. He was Apostolic Pro-Nuncio to Gabon, Cameroun, and Apostolic Nunciature to Equatorial Guinea, Equatorial Guinea from 1981 till 1989, and Apostolic Nuncio to Austria from 1 July 1989 until retirement on 8 October 2002.
