Apollon Tsochlas
Apollon Tsochlas (alternate spellings: Apollonas, Apollona) (Greek: Απόλλων Τσόχλας; born August 20, 1983) is a Greek professional basketball player for Tritonas of the Greek A2 Basket League. He is a 6 ft 2 in (1.89 m) tall point guard- shooting guard. Early career Tsochlas started playing basketball with the youth clubs of Aris Glyfadas. He then played with Kefallonia, in the Greek minor divisions, from 2002 to 2005. Professional career Tsochlas made his pro debut in the Greek 2nd Division, with Doukas, in 2005. With Doukas, he played in the Greek 2nd Division in the 2005–06 and 2006–07 seasons, and in the Greek 3rd Division, in the 2007–08 season. He then joined Kefallonias, to play in the Greek 4th Division, for the 2008–09 season. Tsochlas then played with the Greek club Rethymno, from 2009 to 2013. Point Guard
The point guard (PG), also called the one or the point, is one of the five Basketball positions, positions in a regulation basketball game. A point guard has perhaps the most specialized role of any position. Point guards are expected to run the team's offense by controlling the ball and making sure that it gets to the right player at the right time. Above all, the point guard must understand and accept their coach's game plan; in this way, the position can be compared to a quarterback in American football. Greek Basketball League System
The Greek basketball league system is a number of interconnected competitions for professional basketball clubs in Greece. The system has a hierarchical format with a promotion and relegation system between competitions at different levels. There are several different competitions in the system. The highest level competitions are the nationwide competitions: the Greek Basket League, the Greek A2 Basket League, the Greek B Basket League, and the Greek C Basket League. 2016–17 Basketball Champions League
The 2016–17 Basketball Champions League was the inaugural season of the Basketball Champions League (BCL), a European professional basketball competition for clubs that was launched by FIBA. The competition began on 27 September 2016, with the qualifying rounds, and concluded on 30 April 2017, at the Final Four. A number of 52 teams from 31 countries participated in the competition, including its qualifying rounds. Iberostar Tenerife won the inaugural season of the BCL, after winning the final of the Final Four which was hosted in its home arena. Format changes The competition format suffered multiple adjustments since its official presentation on 21 March 2016, in Paris. Initially, the tournament would feature a total of 56 teams from 30 national leagues. FIBA Champions League
The Basketball Champions League (BCL) is an annual professional basketball competition for European clubs, organised by FIBA. It is the top-level competition organised by FIBA Europe, therefore the champion participates in the FIBA Intercontinental Cup. Clubs qualify for the competition based on their performance in their national leagues and cup competitions. Although exceptional, some teams can be wildcarded. 2013–14 Eurocup Basketball
The 2013–14 Eurocup Basketball season was the 12th edition of Europe's second-tier level transnational competition for men's professional basketball clubs, the EuroCup. The EuroCup is the European-wide league level that is one level below the EuroLeague. Valencia, the winner of this competition, earned a place at the group stage of the next season's EuroLeague. Valencia beat UNICS in two legs. It was the first time since the 2002–03 season, that the Finals were played over two games. Competition format changes The competition increases from 32 to 48 teams in the Regular Season phase. The size of the groups will grow to six teams, where the first three qualified teams will join the Last 32 stage. European Professional Club Basketball System
