Apollon Limassol Basketball Club ( gr, Καλαθοσφαιρικός Όμιλος Απόλλων Λεμεσού), is an Cypriot basketball club. The team competes in the Cyprus Basketball Division A, the top tier of Cypriot basketball. The team represents the city of Limassol, Cyprus. Having been one of the founding members of the Cyprus Basketball Division A, Apollon Limassol have been a regular in the first division for many years. Despite this, the team has yet to see significant success both domestically and internationally. History The Apollon Limassol sports club was founded in the year 1954, the basketball section of Apollon Limassol was formed in 1967. The team was one of the original founding member of the Cyprus Basketball Federation, one of the first professional basketball leagues in Cyprus. Cyprus Basketball Division A
The Cypriot Basketball Division A is currently the top-tier level men's professional basketball competition of the Cypriot basketball league system. It is run and governed by the Cyprus Basketball Federation. Format At present, six clubs compete in the league. Since the 2016–17 season, the six teams play each other four times during the regular season, with the top 4 teams reaching the play-off semi-finals stage. One team (the last one) at the end of the season is relegated to the second division, whilst one team from the second division is promoted. The play-off semi-finals and the championship winner will be decided after three wins. The championship winner, along with the winners of the Cypriot Cup, will qualify to compete in the next season's FIBA's European-wide continental competitions. Sam Jones (basketball, Born 1978)
Sam Jones (born April 29, 1978) is an American-Dutch professional basketball coach and former player who is an assistant coach for the Colorado State Rams. He was an assistant coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). During his playing career, Jones played in Europe for several clubs as well as for the Netherlands national basketball team. National team career Jones started the process of obtaining a Dutch passport in 2017. He played 25 caps for the Netherlands national basketball team; he made his debut on August 14, 2008 against Sweden. Coaching career After being an assistant for EiffelTowers Den Bosch (now Heroes Den Bosch) under Austrian coach Raoul Korner for three seasons, Jones became head coach of the club in 2013. FIBA EuroChallenge (called the FIBA Europe League in 2003–05, and FIBA EuroCup in 2005–08) was the 3rd-tier level transnational men's professional continental club basketball competition in Europe, from 2003 to 2015. It was organized and run by FIBA Europe. BC Samara (russian: БК Самара) is a Russian professional basketball team that is based in Samara, Russia. History BC Samara (1976–2002) Club was founded in Tolyatti as BC Azot. Khimik Yuzhne ( uk, Хімік Южне) is a Ukrainian professional basketball club that is based in Yuzhne. The club plays in the Ukrainian Basketball SuperLeague. In 2006, the club reached the final of the EuroCup Challenge, where they were defeated by Ural Great Perm. History The team was founded in 2001 as BC Khimik. In the first season of the club, the team immediately finished in fourth place in the Ukrainian Basketball SuperLeague. In the 2014–15 season, Khimik won its first national championship after going undefeated in the entire season. In the regular season, Khimik finished 30–0 and in the Playoffs the team won all its six games. The Cypriot Basketball Super Cup is a men's professional basketball competition in Cyprus, organized by the Cyprus Basketball Federation. It is contested by the champion of the Cypriot First Division and the winner of the Cypriot Cup. History The first Cypriot Super Cup match was played in 1985, with AEL winning the trophy, after beating ENAD 78–75. From 195 until 1994, the competition was held under the name "Independence Shield", but in the following years it was called, the "Federation Cup". From 2005 until 2009, the competition was dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Helios Airways Flight 522 plane crash, which took place at Grammatiko, in 2005.
