Apocopodon
''Apocopodon'' is an extinct genus of eagle ray from the Paleocene epoch of the Paleogene period. It contains a single species ''A. sericeus''. It was originally described from the Danian-aged Marina Farinha Formation of the Paraíba Basin of Brazil. Recently, the genus was reported in Kingstree, South Carolina probably derived from the lower paleocene-aged Rhems Formation The Rhems Formation, also called the Rhems Shale, is a geologic formation in South Carolina. Maria Farinha Formation
The Maria Farinha Formation is a geological formation of the Parnaíba Basin in Pernambuco, northeastern Brazil whose strata date back to the Danian stage of the Paleocene, or Tiupampan in the SALMA classification. The formation comprising limestones, dolomites, marly and sandy limestones has been deposited in a shallow marine platform environment. The formation has provided fossils of reptiles and fish. Description The Maria Farinha Formation crops out in the Parnaíba Basin in the northeastern state of Pernambuco of Brazil. The formation registers the Cretaceous-Paleogene boundary at the base of the formation, where it overlies the Maastrichtian Gramame Formation. Eagle Ray
The eagle rays are a group of cartilaginous fishes in the family Myliobatidae, consisting mostly of large species living in the open ocean rather than on the sea bottom. Eagle rays feed on mollusks and crustaceans, crushing their shells with their flattened teeth. They are excellent swimmers and are able to breach the water up to several metres above the surface.
