''Apache Skies'' is a four-issue comic book limited series, published in 2002 by Marvel Comics as a part of that company's MAX imprint. The series was written by John Ostrander and drawn by Leonardo Manco. The series was a sequel to 2000s '' Blaze of Glory''. Leonardo Manco
Leonardo Manco (born 16 December 1971) is an Argentine comic book artist. Career Manco is best known for his dark and gritty style on such titles as Marvel Comics’ '' Hellstorm'' (1994), '' Blaze of Glory'' (2000, #1-4), '' Apache Skies'' (2002, #1-4), '' Deathlok Vol. 3'' (1999–2000), and '' Hellblazer'' (2004) from DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint. Other work by Manco has included Marvel’s '' Archangel'' #1 (1996), '' Werewolf by Night Vol.2'' #1-6 (1998), '' Doom'' #1-3 (2000) and ''Doom: The Emperor Returns'' #1-3 (2002). In 2004 he drew an original graphic novel '' Hellblazer: All His Engines'', written by Mike Carey, and was the regular artist on the ''Hellblazer'' ongoing series for Vertigo. MAX (comics)
MAX Comics is an imprint of Marvel Comics specializing in comic book media aimed at adult-only readers. It was launched in 2001 after Marvel broke with the Comics Code Authority and established its own rating system. The MAX Comics imprint is not Marvel's first effort in featuring explicit content in their titles. The company's Epic Comics imprint in the 1980s and early 1990s often featured stronger content than their mainstream imprint. However, the MAX Comics imprint is the first time Marvel has specifically produced comics with uncensored content. While some works such as ''Alias'' have received acclaim, the imprint has attracted controversy, with some critics considering some of the titles to be gratuitous in its use of mature or vulgar content. Apache Kid (comics)
The Apache Kid (Alan Krandal) is a fictional Old West character in the Marvel Comics universe, mostly seen in stories from Marvel's 1950s precursor, Atlas Comics. This character was named after, but is unrelated to, the real-life Native American man known as The Apache Kid (Haskay-bay-nay-natyl). Rawhide Kid
The Rawhide Kid (real name: Johnny Bart, originally given as Johnny Clay) is a fictional Old West cowboy appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. A heroic gunfighter of the 19th-century American West who was unjustly wanted as an outlaw, he is one of Marvel's most prolific Western characters. He and other Marvel western heroes have on rare occasions guest-starred through time travel in such contemporary titles as '' The Avengers'' and ''West Coast Avengers''. In two mature-audience miniseries, in 2003 and 2010, he is depicted as gay. Publication history Atlas Comics The Rawhide Kid debuted in a 16-issue series (March 1955-Sept. 1957) from Marvel's 1950s predecessor, Atlas Comics. John Ostrander
John Ostrander (born April 20, 1949) is an American writer of comic books, including ''Suicide Squad'', ''Grimjack'' and '' Star Wars: Legacy''. Career Ostrander studied theology with the intent of becoming a Catholic priest, but now describes himself as an agnostic. Originally an actor in the Organic Theater Company in Chicago, Ostrander moved into writing comics in 1983. His first published works were stories about the character "Sargon, Mistress of War", and appeared in the First Comics series ''Warp!'', based on a series of plays by that same Chicago theatre company. He and Timothy Truman co-created the character Grimjack, who originally appeared in a backup story in the First Comics title, ''Starslayer'', before receiving his own title. Just prior to entering the comics industry, Ostrander had a supporting character named for him in '' The Daring New Adventures of Supergirl'' series. A comic book, also called comicbook, comic magazine or (in the United Kingdom and Ireland) simply comic, is a publication that consists of comics art in the form of sequential juxtaposed panels that represent individual scenes. In the field of comic books, a limited series is a comics series with a predetermined number of issues. A limited series differs from an ongoing series in that the number of issues is finite and determined before production, and it differs from a One-shot (comics), one shot in that it is composed of multiple issues. The term is often used interchangeably with miniseries (mini-series) and maxiseries (maxi-series), usually depending on the length and number of issues.
