Ap Lei Chau Power Station
The Ap Lei Chau Power Station was an oil-fired power station in Ap Lei Chau, Hong Kong. History The power station was commissioned in 1968 and was the largest power station in British Hong Kong at that time. The power station was decommissioned starting in 1984 and eventually closed in 1989. Its generators were then moved to Lamma Power Station. The area around the power station is now surrounded by the South Horizons residential area. Generation The power station provided electricity to the western area of Hong Kong. British Hong Kong
Hong Kong was a colony and later a dependent territory of the British Empire from 1841 to 1997, apart from a period of occupation under the Japanese Empire from 1941 to 1945 during the Pacific War. The colonial period began with the British occupation of Hong Kong Island in 1841, during the First Opium War between the British and the Qing dynasty. The Qing had wanted to enforce its prohibition of opium importation within the dynasty that was being exported mostly from British India, as it was causing widespread addiction among its populace. Lamma Power Station
Lamma Power Station, informally known as Lamma Island Power Station, is a thermal power station and solar farm in Po Lo Tsui, Lamma Island, Hong Kong. With an installed capacity of 3,617 MW, the power station is the second largest coal-fired power station in Hong Kong after Castle Peak Power Station. Completed in 1982 for Hongkong Electric, the station provides power to Hong Kong Island and Lamma Island. It was later expanded several times. South Horizons () is a private housing estate located in Aberdeen at the western end of Ap Lei Chau ( Aberdeen Island), in the Southern District of Hong Kong.
