Anæa
Anaea (or Anæa) ( grc, Ἄναια) is an ancient city, former bishopric and present Latin Catholic titular see in Asia Minor. It gave its name to its modern location, Anya (Kadıkalesi) in the coastal village of Soğucak situated to the south of Kuşadası in Aydın Province, Turkey. History From the Archaic period, Anaea was a mainland dependency of Samos. In times of stasis (civil strife) in Samos, the losing party would often flee to Anaea, from which they would eventually mount counter-attacks. After the defeat of the Revolt of Mytilene, when Alcidas was anchored at Ephesus, a deputation of Samians from Anaia came to him. A detailed Samian law dealing with the sale and distribution of grain from Anaea and the establishment of a lending fund from the profits survives from the Hellenistic period. Anaea was important enough in the Roman province of Asia Prima to become a suffragan bishopric of its capital Ephesus's Metropolitan Archbishopric. Yet it would fade. In 141 ...

Ara Gaya
Ara Gaya, also known as Ana Gaya, Asiryangguk ( 아시량국, 阿尸良國)), and Anra, Alla (안라, 安羅), was a city-state kingdom in the part of Gaya confederacy, in modern-day Haman County of South Korea. As the confrontational foreign policy of Daegaya failed, Ara Gaya and its less confrontational policy gained support in the 540s AD. By the 6th century AD, Gaya could not risk the hostility of either Baekje or Silla (two of the Three Kingdoms of Korea that dominated the peninsula, the third being Goguryeo). Ara Gaya put a great deal of effort into pursuing a diplomatic solution for maintaining its independence, including hosting summits between Baekje, Silla and Yamato-Wa. The Gaya confederacy was greatly weakened at the time, as northwestern Gaya states fell under the influence of Baekje and southeastern states fell under Silla's influence. Ara Gaya sought to maintain its independence by allying itself with Goguryeo, and then asked Goguryeo to invade Baekje in 548 AD ...

Anya (Anastasia)
Anya is a character in 20th Century Fox's animated film ''Anastasia'' (1997). A Russian orphan with amnesia, Anya travels to Paris in hopes of re-discovering her past and family, collaborating with a pair of con artists who scheme to use her likeness to Russia's Imperial family to win a lucrative reward. Although largely fictionalized, the character is loosely based on two historical figures: Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna of Russia, the youngest daughter of Nicholas II, and Anna Anderson, an imposter famous for claiming to be the Grand Duchess. Plot elements from the film ''Anastasia'' (1956), in which the title character is played by actress Ingrid Bergman, served as a primary source of inspiration for Anya. Created by director and animator Don Bluth, Anya is based on the urban legend that Anastasia survived the Romanov family's execution in 1918, with writers omitting most of the tragic elements about her life in favor of a more optimistic re-telling. Basing her appea ...

Anya (musical)
''Anya'' is a musical with a book by George Abbott and Guy Bolton and music and lyrics by Robert Wright and George Forrest. As they had done with ''Song of Norway (1944)'' and '' Kismet (1953)'', Wright and Forrest developed the musical score using themes written by a classical composer, in this case Sergei Rachmaninoff. Based on Bolton's 1954 English adaptation of Marcelle Maurette's 1952 play ''Anastasia'' and the subsequent 1956 film adaptation of the same name, it focuses on Anya who, when discovered in a Berlin psychiatric facility in 1925 by taxi driver Bounine, a former Cossack general in Czarist Russia, claims to be Anastasia, the supposedly murdered youngest daughter of Emperor Nicholas II. A number of fictional elements, including a romantic triangle involving Anya, Bounine, and his mistress Genia and the addition of a comical character, café proprietor Katrina, weakened the plot of the true story. It also continued to perpetuate the notion that the Dowager Empress ...
