Antonio Ridolfi
Antonio Ridolfi (1824–1900) was an Italian painter noted for his paintings of sacred and historical subjects, as well as costume genre pieces. Biography While born in Mezzana in the Province of Trento, he lived in Siena most of his adult life. He studied under Francesco Nenci and Luigi Mussini at the Art Institute of Siena. He derived a Neoclassic, Purismo style recalling Ingres. He exhibited at Milan, in 1872, depicting '' Buondelmonte dei Buondelmonti, nel momento in cui gli vien mostrata la Donati''. At the 1884 National Exposition of Turin were displayed: ''Al tempio''; ''Un fiore''; and ''Nel tempio''. Other works include ''Francesca da Rimini''. Ridolfi painted the altarpiece depicting ''The Madonna in glory between Saints Peter and Paul'' for the parish church of Santi Pietro e Paolo in Mezzana. Casole d'Elsa kaːzoleis a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Siena in the Italian region Tuscany, located about southwest of Florence and about west of Siena. Main sights The church of ''San Niccolò'', of Romanesque origin, has a nave and four aisles divided by columns and semicolumns, with two semicircular apses with mullioned windows. The central portal is from the early 14th century, while the portico is modern. It has 17th-century frescoes by Rustichino and, at the high altar, one 14th century ''Madonna'' of the Sienese School. Sallustio Bandini
Sallustio Bandini (19 April 1677 – 8 June 1760) was an Italian archdeacon, economist, and politician. He was an advocate of free trade, and removal of local feudal tariffs and tolls. He wrote an influential piece on this subject, titled ''Discorso Economico sopra la Maremma di Siena'', published posthumously in 1775. Approximately two years before his death, Bandini donated his private library to the University of Siena, under the agreement that the almost 3000 volumes would be made publicly available. From this donation the ''Biblioteca della Sapienza'' was formed, now known as ''Biblioteca Comunale degli Intronati''. Early life Bandini was born Sallustio Antonio Bandini in Siena to a prominent local family. His father was Patrizio Bandini and his mother was Caterina Piccolomini di Modanella, a member of the influential Piccolomini nobility. He was their third son. Asciano
Asciano () is a ''comune'' and hill town in the province of Siena in the Italian region Tuscany. It is located at the centre of the Crete senesi between the river Ombrone and the torrent Copra, some southeast of the town of Siena by rail. History Asciano has origins as Etruscan, Roman and Lombard settlements. Palazzo Pubblico Of Siena
The Palazzo Pubblico (''town hall'') is a palace in Siena, Tuscany, central Italy. Construction began in 1297 to serve as the seat of the Republic of Siena's government, which consisted of the Podestà and Council of Nine, the elected officials who performed executive functions (and judicial ones in secular matters). Architecture The outside of the structure is an example of Italian medieval architecture with Gothic influences. The lower story is stone while the upper crenellated stories are made of brick. The facade of the palace is curved slightly inwards (concave) to reflect the outwards curve (convex) of the Piazza del Campo, Siena's central square, of which the Palace is the focal point. Amos Cassioli
Amos Cassiòli (10 August 1832 – 17 December 1891) was an Italian painter, of battle scenes, historical canvases and portraits. He worked in a Purismo style. Biography Cassioli was born in Asciano. After studying at the Sienese Academy of Fine Arts under Luigi Mussini, a stipend from Grand Duke Ferdinand IV of Tuscany, enabled him and Angelo Visconti to study in Rome. At the end of 1860 he established himself in Florence which, although he maintained his links with Siena, became his permanent home. Regarded as an excellent portraitist, Cassioli is also noted for his large-scale history paintings which include the ''Battle of Legnano'' (1860–1870, Florence, Galleria di arte moderna, Palazzo Pitti) and ''Il giuramento di Pontida'' (1884, Siena, Palazzo Pubblico).
