Anton Dietrich
Anton Dietrich (27 May 1833 – 4 August 1904) was a :German painters, German painter who focused on murals, particularly frescos. Biography Born in Meissen, Dietrich joined the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts at age 14 and studied sculpture under Ernst Julius Hähnel. In 1848 he made his debut at an exhibition held by the academy. He became a student of the painter Eduard Bendemann in that same year, but a short time later Dietrich moved, together with Leonhard Gey, to work in the studios of Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld. Despite positive reviews, Dietrich was unable to make a living as a freelance artist, so he also worked as an illustrator for various publishers and art dealers. Dietrich learned fresco techniques from Carl von Binzer and for a short time, was a master student of Von Carolsfeld. Kreuzschule
The ''Kreuzschule'' (German for "School of the Cross") in Dresden (also known by its Latin name, ''schola crucis'') is the oldest surviving school in Dresden and one of the oldest in Germany. As early as 1300, a schoolmaster (''Cunradus puerorum rector'') was mentioned. It was founded as a grammar school for the singers of the ''capella sanctae crucis'' (Latin for "Chapel of the Holy Cross"), now the Dresdner Kreuzchor. The school is now a Protestant '' Gymnasium'', officially called the ''Evangelisches Kreuzgymnasium''. History Since its inception, the school has had close ties to the Kreuzkirche (Church of the Cross), formerly known as St. Nicholas Church, that dates at least to 1215. In the Middle Ages, to teach the children in church choirs, church schools proliferated. Schoolmasters were educators (particularly of theology), as well as music teachers. Stanford Memorial Church
Stanford Memorial Church (also referred to informally as MemChu) is located on the Main Quad at the center of the Stanford University campus in Stanford, California, United States. It was built during the American RenaissanceGregg, p. 34 by Jane Stanford as a memorial to her husband Leland. Designed by architect Charles A. Coolidge, a student of Henry Hobson Richardson, the church has been called "the University's architectural crown jewel". Designs for the church were submitted to Jane Stanford and the university trustees in 1898, and it was dedicated in 1903. The building is Romanesque in form and Byzantine in its details, inspired by churches in the region of Venice, especially, Ravenna. Its stained glass windows and extensive mosaics are based on religious paintings the Stanfords admired in Europe.
