Anthony Russel
Anthony or Antony Russel (–1743) was an English portrait-painter. Life Antony Russel, son of the painter Theodore Russel, carried on the family tradition of portrait-painting, and is said to have studied under John Riley (painter), John Riley. A portrait by him of the famous Henry Sacheverell, Dr. Sacheverell, painted in 1710, was engraved in mezzotint by John Smith (engraver), John Smith.Cust 1897, p. 425. He was an intimate friend of George Vertue, who engraved some of his portraits, and he supplied Vertue with many biographical notes concerning artists of the seventeenth century, which are now embodied in Horace Walpole, Walpole's ''Anecdotes of Painting''. Anthony Russell (bishop)
Anthony John Russell (born 25 January 1943) is a retired Anglican bishop. He was the Diocesan Bishop of Ely from 2000 to 2010, having previously served as an area bishop in the Diocese of Oxford from 1988. Early life Russell was educated at Uppingham School, St Chad's College, Durham (he gained a Bachelor of Arts degree) and Trinity College, Oxford, where he earned a Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) degree. He studied for ordination at Ripon College Cuddesdon. Ecclesiastical career Russell was made a deacon during Advent 1970 (13 December) by Launcelot Fleming, Bishop of Norwich, and ordained a priest the Michaelmas following (26 September 1971) by William Llewellyn, Bishop of Lynn — both times at Norwich Cathedral; he was then a curate in the Hilborough group of parishes in the Diocese of Norwich from 1970 to 1973. Anthony Mordechai Tzvi Russell is an American singer and musician who performs in Yiddish. He is an African-American convert to Judaism. Early life and education Russell was born in 1980 in Fort Worth, Texas to a Christian family, moving around frequently as a military brat as his father was in the US Navy. When Russell was seven, his family settled in Vallejo, California. Encouraged by his mother, a former classical pianist, Russell gained a deep interest in music. Anthony John Russell Russell-Wood (1940 – August 13, 2010) was a leading historian of colonial Brazil, the Portuguese Empire, and the broader Luso-Brazilian world. Life Russell-Wood was born in Wales. He was educated at Rossall School and Oxford University and became a member of the faculty of the Department of History at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1971. In 2006, the City Council of Salvador da Bahia, Brazil, made him an honorary citizen. At the time of his death, he was the Herbert Baxter Adams Professor of History at Johns Hopkins. He died, aged 70, in Baltimore, Maryland.
