Anthony Morris (I)
Anthony Morris Jr. (23 August 1654 – 24 October 1721) was a brewer, Quaker preacher, judge, and mayor of Philadelphia. Note: Anthony Morris Jr. is denoted as Anthony Morris I resulting from the convention that he is the first Anthony Morris in the New World (despite being a Jr, and thus the second Anthony Morris). His son, Anthony, is known as the second Anthony Morris (in the New World) and also as Anthony Morris III. Career Morris was born in Stepney, London. He emigrated to Burlington, New Jersey, in 1682, and relocated to Philadelphia three years later. In 1687, he built the original Morris Brewery, establishing a family business that would last until the 1830s. As the Francis Perot (and Sons) Malting Company, it endured into the 1960s as arguably the oldest continuous business in the United States. Anthony Morris (II)
Anthony Morris (March 168223 September 1763) was a brewer, merchant, judge, assemblyman, and mayor of Philadelphia. Morris was born in London, England, and immigrated with his family to New Jersey shortly after his birth. From the age of three, he spent his life in Philadelphia, son of Anthony Morris, Jr., one of the city's leading citizens. In 1696, the elder Anthony paid fellow brewer Henry Babcock 20 pounds (equal to £ today) to place the younger Anthony in a seven-year indentured apprenticeship. In addition to establishing the Morris Brewery as one of colonial Philadelphia's most highly regarded, Morris followed his father as a prominent member of the Religious Society of Friends in Philadelphia. From 1737, he served as an associate justice of the city court. He sat for several sessions as a member of the assembly, and like his father before him, served as mayor in 1738. Anthony Morris (born March 25, 1992) is a former American football offensive tackle. He played college football for Tennessee State. He was selected in the seventh round (218th overall) of the 2015 NFL draft by the Oakland Raiders of the National Football League (NFL). College career As a freshman at Tennessee State, Morris played in eight games. As a sophomore, he played in five games. He was named a full-time starter as a junior in 2013, when he played in 11 games. As a senior, he appeared in 11 games, with 10 starts. Professional career Morris was selected by the Oakland Raiders in the seventh round (218th overall) of the 2015 NFL draft. He signed his rookie contract on May 12, 2015.
