Obafemi Awolowo University
Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) is a federal government-owned university that is located in the ancient city of Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. The university was founded in 1961 and classes commenced in October 1962 as the University of Ife by the regional government of Western Nigeria, which was led by Samuel Ladoke Akintola. It was renamed "Obafemi Awolowo University" on 12 May 1987 in honour of Obafemi Awolowo (1909–1987), the first premier of the Western Region of Nigeria, whose idea the university was. Idowu Bamitale "Tale" Omole (born September 1954) is a Nigerian professor of international relations, educational administrator, and former Vice Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. Early life and education He was born in September 1954 in Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. Oye-Ekiti is a town in Ekiti state, southwestern Nigeria. He attended Methodist High School, Ilesa (1966–71) for his secondary education and later attended Government College, Ibadan, between 1971 and 1973 for his Advanced Levels, winning multiple prizes at both colleges. Eyitope Ogungbenro Ogunbodede (born 23 January 1957) is a Nigerian academic and professor of Dentistry who was the 11th substantial Vice Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria from 2017 to 2022. He is also the founder of Dema Foundation Dental Museum, the first dental museum in Africa commissioned in 2015 which contains relics of modern Nigerian dental history.
