Anthology (Carly Simon Album)
''Anthology'' is a two-disc career retrospective compilation box set by American singer-songwriter Carly Simon, released by Rhino Entertainment, on November 5, 2002. Simon personally selected all the songs for this collection. Over the course of the two discs, every one of her studio albums (up until that point) is chronologically represented with at least one song (not including her just-released Christmas album ''Christmas Is Almost Here'', or her 1993 opera, '' Romulus Hunt: A Family Opera'', on which she only actually performs on one track). The booklet features numerous photographs from Simon's archives, as well as extensive liner notes by Jack Mauro, a lifelong fan of Simon's. Carly Simon
Carly Elisabeth Simon (born June 25, 1943) is an American singer-songwriter, memoirist, and children's author. She rose to fame in the 1970s with a string of hit records; her 13 Top 40 U.S. hits include "Anticipation" (No. 13), " The Right Thing to Do" (No. 17), " Haven't Got Time for the Pain" (No. 14), " You Belong to Me" (No. 6), " Coming Around Again" (No. 18), and her four Gold-certified singles "You're So Vain" (No. 1), "Mockingbird" (No. 5, a duet with James Taylor), "Nobody Does It Better" (No. 2) from the 1977 James Bond film '' The Spy Who Loved Me'', and "Jesse" (No. 11). She has authored two memoirs and five children's books. In 1963, Simon began performing with her sister Lucy Simon as the Simon Sisters. ''Another Passenger'' is the sixth studio album by American singer-songwriter Carly Simon, released by Elektra Records, on June 5, 1976. For this album, Simon enlisted a new producer, Ted Templeman, as well as his clients, The Doobie Brothers and Little Feat, to provide musical and vocal backing. On May 8, 1976, four weeks before the album was released, Simon made her first and (to date) only appearance on ''Saturday Night Live'', performing "Half a Chance" and her signature song "You're So Vain". Reception and packaging ''Another Passenger'' peaked at No. 29 on the ''Billboard'' Pop albums chart. The lead single " It Keeps You Runnin'" peaked at No. 46 on the Pop singles chart and No. 27 on the Adult Contemporary chart, while the second single "Half a Chance" appeared only on the Adult Contemporary chart, peaking at No. 39. ''Playing Possum'' is the fifth studio album by American singer-songwriter Carly Simon, released by Elektra Records, on April 21, 1975. It was Simon's third consecutive album to reach the top 10 on the ''Billboard'' Pop albums chart, peaking at No. 10 in June 1975. The lead single from the album, "Attitude Dancing", which featured Carole King on backing vocals, was also a success, peaking at No. 21 on ''Billboard'' Pop singles chart, and No. 18 on the ''Billboard'' Adult Contemporary chart. ''Hotcakes'' is the fourth studio album by American singer-songwriter Carly Simon, released by Elektra Records, on January 11, 1974. Featuring the major hits " Haven't Got Time for the Pain" and " Mockingbird", the latter a duet with her then-husband James Taylor, ''Hotcakes'' became one of Simon's biggest selling albums. Her first concept album, the autobiographical songs portray Simon happily married and beginning a family. The album's cover photo, taken by Ed Caraeff in late 1973, shows Simon sitting in a maternity dress, pregnant with her first child, Sally.
